“That was such a treat,” Mr Metcalf said of riding in “the King’s” Caddy.

Among his more memorable days have been feeding Noah, a giant turtle at the Sea Life Centre in Great Yarmouth, riding on a Harley-Davidson motorbike in a convoy of 150 others, and hosting his own show on BBC Radio Norfolk.

“I also did a painting for the first time in my life. I worked with a brilliant artist called Margaret Carver and she said my reflections in the water at Horsey Mill were great – I’m quite proud of that,” he said.

Since the beginning of the year he has rung church bells, had a tour of Sizewell B nuclear power plant, ridden in a combine harvester, judged a dog show, served in a fish and chip shop, made doughnuts over a Scout campfire and learned how to carve gravestones with stonemasons.

What was his favourite challenge?

“Well, they have all been favourites but I think flying a plane was my highlight,” Mr Metcalf said.

At the time, he said: “It was really sensational, when I took the controls there. I think I’m the oldest man who’s been in that plane.”

He completed his mammoth challenge on Saturday with five laps of the Adrian Flux Arena in King’s Lynn, in Norfolk, in a two-seater Formula One stock car driven by Phoebe Wainman-Hawkins.

Image caption,

“Everyone was cheering and waving – it was marvellous,” he said.

“But it did take five men to get me out of the car at the end – you would have laughed if you’d seen that.”

After a serious illness in the 1950s Mr Metcalf said he had always tried to help hospitals and hospices with their fundraising, hence his recent decision to support Priscilla Bacon Hospice, near Norwich.

He has raised £1,295 so far but, with his challenges completed, will he be putting his feet up?

“I’ve loved doing this so much and people have been so supportive – I’m never bored – and I’ve got a lot more plans for the future.”

The Canyon, a 23-story mixed-use building designed by MVRDV, officially opened on June 21st in a ceremony attended by San Francisco Mayor London Breed, and the first residents are now moving in. The project was built as part of a master plan that transforms a windswept parking lot on San Francisco’s waterfront into a new sustainable neighborhood called Mission Rock. with housing for middle-income residents. With its rugged walls and a publicly accessible “canyon” that provides a path through the grounds, The Canyon evokes the dramatic geology of California, inspired in part by the charismatic topography of San Francisco. As MVRDV’s first completed project on the West Coast, The Canyon aims to introduce a blend of local sensibility and a cosmopolitan approach – in everything from the building’s public space to its mix of functions to the apartments it offers.

Located across from the Giants’ Oracle Park Stadium, The Canyon is one of four buildings forming the first phase of the new Mission Rock Neighborhood being developed through a partnership of the San Francisco Giants, Tishman Speyer and the Port of San Francisco. These buildings were designed through a collaborative process in which four internationally renowned design firms – Studio Gang, Henning Larsen and WorkAC, and MVRDV – worked simultaneously, creating designs that fit together seamlessly while each having a distinct look and feel.

Located in the northwest corner of the neighborhood, The Canyon is the first thing visitors see when crossing the 3rd Street Bridge and is soon overlooked by China Basin Park, a waterfront park and cultural hub for the community. The building consists of a five-storey base topped by a 73-meter tower in the west corner of the property. Like all buildings in the master plan, The Canyon’s ground floor is home to small shops and restaurants that will help create a sense of community in the new neighborhood.

In the case of The Canyon, the ground floor has two floors of offices, followed by 283 apartments. Over a third of these homes are rented at below-market rents, with residents selected through a lottery process, providing 102 homes to middle-income families and helping to alleviate San Francisco’s housing crisis.

The canyon is immediately recognizable thanks to its robustly textured reddish-brown facade. The design references California rock formations and features a landscaped public “canyon” that runs diagonally through the base of the building, connecting to offices and community facilities for residents. Offering a lush and vibrant space to relax and work, the Canyon also offers a shortcut from China Basin Park to the heart of the district. The walls of the gorge and the east side of the tower are jagged, with recesses and overhangs that give the impression of sheer cliffs. These have the added benefit of creating bay windows and small balconies for 40 apartments that offer views across the San Francisco Bay. The roofs of the plinth are also planted with plenty of greenery, creating common spaces where residents can relax, play sports or meet friends.

“With our design, we convey a sense of the topography in order to closely connect the building with its location,” says MVRDV founding partner Natalie de Vries. “Crucially, this approach also allowed us to contribute to a vibrant neighborhood: with the public canyon at its heart, The Canyon creates an activity-filled landscape where public space is connected to the shops, offices and homes surrounding Mission Rock to keep busy and keep alive. And thanks to the inclusion of below-market rental rates, it’s a neighborhood that will be accessible to the city’s nurses, teachers and other essential workers who keep the city running.”

An advantage of the simultaneous design process for the master plan is that the four buildings share critical energy and water infrastructure. For example, the building designed by Work AC houses a water recycling plant that treats black water from around the neighborhood for reuse. For its part, The Canyon houses the key mechanical elements of an efficient district heating system, hidden in parts of the ground floor and basement. Proximity to the San Francisco Bay gives the site the opportunity to use the bay water to both cool and heat Mission Rock via a water exchange system. The system results in a reduction in CO2 emissions, lower water and energy consumption and therefore lower bills for tenants. There is also a bicycle parking area in the basement, encouraging residents to use healthy and sustainable modes of transport. Taken together, these joint systems and actions enable the neighborhood to significantly reduce its carbon emissions and it will become one of the region’s exemplary projects.

The canyon and wider Mission Rock neighborhood are being developed in a partnership between the San Francisco Giants, Tishman Speyer and the Port of San Francisco. MVRDV worked with executive architect Perry Architects, landscape architect GLS Landscape/Architecture, PAE Engineers, civil engineer Magnusson Klemencic Associates and Swinerton Builders as contractors.

Located in the Southeastern US, Midwestern US and Texas, the Company is a leading provider of residential HVAC, plumbing and electrical services across 15 brands. Southern HVAC’s management team will remain with the Company and retain a meaningful equity stake. Financial terms of the transaction were not disclosed.

Southern HVAC represents Gryphon’s second home services acquisition in the last 10 months. In December 2020Gryphon acquired Right Time Heating & Air Conditioning (“Right Time”), the largest independent residential HVAC services provider in Canada.

Southern HVAC and Right Time will be owned by NAEHS (North American Essential Home Services), but will continue to operate independently, retaining their existing brand names and current management teams, while leveraging the combined scale and scope of the two businesses. As part of the transaction, Ian McKeen has become CEO of NAEHS. Mr. McKeen, a dual US and Canadian citizen, has spent more than 25 years in the home services industry and previously served as President & COO of Service Experts, a leading provider of residential HVAC and plumbing services in the United States and Canada.

Mr. McKeen said, “The holding company structure will allow each company to share in best practices and benefit from scale advantages, while maintaining the separate strategies and management teams that have driven their success to date. I look forward to working with Southern HVAC CEO Bryan Benak and Right Time CEO Craig Goettler to continue building two of the best home services businesses in NorthAmerica.”

Mr. Benak added, “Residential HVAC, plumbing and electrical services remains a highly fragmented industry, with demand growth being driven as consumers spend more time in their homes. We aim to expand our position as the leading residential services provider across Texasthe Southeastern US, and Midwestern US with support from Gryphon, Ian and Right Time.”

Mr. Goettler noted, “We continue to enjoy our partnership with Gryphon and are excited about the opportunity to collaborate with the Southern HVAC management team.”

Alex EarlsGryphon Deal Partners, and Jeff BalagnaGryphon Operating Partner, further added that “The acquisition of Southern HVAC represents an excellent strategic fit for Gryphon’s North American residential services strategy and is highly complementary to Right Time, which has performed ahead of expectations since our investment this past December. Common ownership of both of these companies by NAEHS should create significant value for stakeholders of both companies, and we are excited as part of this investment to support the organic and acquisition strategies of Southern HVAC and Right Time.”

Charles Stubbsto MSouth Partners, said, “Bryan Benak and his team at Southern HVAC were critical to the value creation we experienced during our investment and in building one of the largest residential HVAC platforms in the South and Midwest through organic growth and a buy-and-build strategy. We were fortunate to partner with such an outstanding management team, and we look forward to watching their continued success.”

DLA Piper was legal advisor to Southern HVAC and MSouth. Stephens Inc. and Moelis & Company acted as Gryphon’s financial advisors, while Kirkland & Ellis served as legal advisor.

Established as the most ambitious and exciting project yet in the company’s 70-year history, Family Handyman, a leading home improvement destination, built a 1,000-square-foot getaway home that shows home improvement shows how to get out of the woods of Northern Wisconsin. Wayne Dalton was commissioned by Family Handyman to transform a second dream home into a DIY reality using a contemporary model 8850 aluminum garage door with a black anodized frame and clear glass for a modern look with maximum visibility.

“Inspired by last year’s mantra to stay at home, Family Handyman awakened the desire to escape the daily grind that many of us came across with the idea of building a quiet and functional home for a short vacation. By incorporating the 8850’s sleek design in place of a traditional wall to enhance the functionality of the home, the team was able to reinforce the Getaway home’s glass surfaces and patios and beautifully blend indoor and outdoor spaces for the ultimate vacation experience, ”said Sarah Schram, Senior Brand Marketing Manager at Wayne Dalton.

The Model 8850 garage doors installed by Lakeland Overhead Garage Door Corporation feature full-view glass panels that provide unobstructed year-round visibility. Key features of the Model 8850 include a sturdy, anodized aluminum frame, tongue and groove connections, and reinforced fins with a heavy-duty rail and mounts for years of trouble-free, trouble-free operation.

According to Lat 35 Racing, it took the team of four 30 days, 7 hours and 30 minutes to complete the trip. The team’s performance surpasses the previous Guinness world record according to the Great Pacific Race by almost nine days. The 2,400 nautical mile race is one of the toughest in the world, according to the race’s website. Teams of two or four compete against each other in identical, self-supporting boats.

Jason Caldwell, Angus Collins, Duncan Roy and Jordan Shuttleworth of Lat 35 arrived in Honolulu Wednesday after setting sail from San Francisco on May 31.

Caldwell, the team’s captain, told CNN subsidiary KITV that members can begin the journey by taking turns rowing.

“To keep the boat moving 24 hours a day, row for two hours, two hours, 24 hours a day throughout the crossing, so that you as an individual are responsible for rowing 12 hours a day.” he said.

“There was something special about this boat and I will spend the rest of my life not describing it to others,” Caldwell wrote on Instagram. However, the race took its toll. The team was weighed before and after the race. And although the team was consuming 5,000 calories a day, the team lost a combined 76.3 pounds, or 34.6 kilograms, according to a Facebook post from the race.

KITV reported that the team planned to spend several days on the islands before returning home.

SAN FRANCISCO – (BUSINESS WIRE) – Suffolk, one of the country’s most innovative and successful construction and real estate companies, recently completed construction on 200 Linden Avenue, a 97-unit condominium in South San Francisco that includes 78 commercial and 19 affordable units. The 200 Linden is centrally located near downtown South San Francisco and the city’s Caltrain train station. It is an eight-story multi-family complex developed by Hisense Real Estate and designed by BDE Architecture. The new development, officially called The Linden, shows the demand for public transportation and urban living in a post-COVID world.

“Well thought-out housing developments, especially projects that address critical issues such as affordability and access to transportation, drive cultural and economic advancement in our communities,” said Mike DiNapoli, general manager of Suffolk Northern California. “Suffolk prides itself on using innovative processes and technology to support the development of community projects like The Linden that contribute to the bright future of South San Francisco.”

The building has a contemporary architectural design and offers a mix of one, two, and three bedroom floor plans, each with their own floor plans and amenities. Residents have a variety of indoor and outdoor meeting spaces, including a designer lobby with lounge seating areas. a lush courtyard; a community clubhouse and a beautiful view. There is also one garage space per residential area with electric vehicle stations (EV) as well as bicycle parking spaces and EV bicycle charging stations.

Suffolk used MiTek Cold Formed Steel Plate (CFS) to build the superstructure. Given the unprecedented restrictions imposed by COVID, the implementation of these panels had a significant positive impact on the project’s schedule. In fact, 200 Linden is the only building in the world that uses these panels stacked on five levels in a wooden frame structure. MiTek technology has proven so effective that the Suffolk team is considering including it in the design process for Type III construction projects.
