PHILADELPHIA (AP) — Zack Wheeler struck out 11 in seven innings, Bryce Harper hit a three-run home run and Kyle Schwarber added a solo shot to help the Philadelphia Phillies earn a four-game win over the San Francisco Giants by 6 :1 to complete victory on Monday.

Harper singled deep against Giants rookie Mason Black, spoiling the major league debut of the Giants right-hander, who pitched in the fifth inning against the team he rooted for as a kid.

“I hope he enjoyed it with his family, his teammates and everything else because there is only one debut,” Harper said.

This season's Phillies are winning as many as the ones Black cheered for as a child.

The major league-leading Phillies (25-11) won their sixth straight and have won 10 of 11 and 17 of 20 to open a three-game lead over Atlanta in the NL East.

The Phillies have also won 10 straight games at Citizens Bank Park, just two wins shy of matching the team record set in 2012. Philadelphia also set a franchise record with 11 consecutive wins against NL West opponents.

“I feel like we win in different ways every night. And it's a completely different player who makes it big, be it a hitter or a pitcher. It’s never the same guy, which is nice,” catcher JT Realmuto said. “There is not too much pressure on a player. We all feel like we play really well together and have a lot of fun, and the guys contribute every night.”

Harper hit a home run for the second straight game and his eighth hit of the season made it 4-0 against Black (0-1). Black made his major league debut in front of his parents, younger brother, girlfriend and numerous friends and family who came to watch him play against his favorite childhood team.

The 24-year-old Black – rated the seventh-best prospect in baseball according to MLB.com – was the Giants' third-round pick in the 2021 draft out of Lehigh University. Black recorded a 1-2-3 first inning that included strikeouts by JT Realmuto and Harper, the latter of which was caught in the 88 mph changeup.

Black allowed eight hits, five runs and three walks. He struck out four hits in 4 1/3 innings.

Wheeler (4-3) showed the rookie how it's done. He rebounded from an 0-3 start – he allowed a total of six runs in his first three starts – to win his fourth straight start. Wheeler allowed one run, walked one and lowered his ERA to 1.64.

“Today Wheels did what Zack does every time he goes out there. It was fun to watch and keep us in the game,” Harper said.

Matt Strahm pitched a scoreless eighth and Orion Kerkering pitched the ninth to complete the five.

With shortstop Trea Turner out for at least six weeks with a left hamstring strain, his replacements are starting to fill the void. Bryson Stott moved from second base to shortstop and snagged a great grounder from Wilmer Flores in the first to set up an inning-ending double play. Whit Merrifield started second and gave the Phillies a 1-0 lead with an RBI single in the fourth.

Harper had a three-run toss in the fifth and Nick Castellanos, who hit 37 doubles last season, got his first hit of the year later in the inning for a 5-0 lead.

Phillies third baseman Alec Bohm went 0-for-4, ending his hitting streak at 18 games.

HUGE BREAK

The Giants lost for the sixth time in seven games, falling 6-14 on the road. They lost two of three games in Boston and ended their 10-game trip with three games at Colorado, the only team behind San Francisco in the NL West. Maybe there will be a Mile High fortune change for the Giants — they are 18-8 at Coors Field with a plus-51 run differential since 2021.

“We need to clean up,” manager Bob Melvin said. “We have to play better. We left home one game under .500 and not playing very well. I thought (the road) could be a pretty good spot for us since we hadn't been playing well. And now we’re playing terribly.”

NEXT

The Giants send LHP Kyle Harrison (2-1, 3.79 ERA) to the mound against Rockies RHP Dakota Hudson (0-5, 5.93) on Tuesday.

The Phillies stay at home and open a two-game set against Toronto on Tuesday. They will send LHP Cristopher Sánchez (1-3, 3.68) to the mound against Blue Jays RHP José Berríos (4-2, 1.44).

New York and California are large, diverse states, and the distance between them makes a cross-country move a daunting prospect. We’ve compiled some recommendations, tips, and checklists to help New Yorkers who are on their way to becoming Californians. This major interstate move can be less stressful and more exciting as long as you’re prepared.

Why Move From New York to California?

Some people move from New York to California for a job. The San Francisco Bay Area and its tech scene draw a huge crowd of aspiring entrepreneurs, while plenty of entertainers head to Hollywood and Los Angeles to try to hit it big.

The change in scenery is also a huge draw. The East Coast is beautiful in the fall, but it doesn’t have the year-round appeal of much of California, which boasts mild, comfortable weather more consistently.

Cost is another factor: It’s 22% less expensive to live in Los Angeles than it is to live in New York City, according to Salary.com. Housing prices are high in many parts of California, but you’ll still get more bang for your buck. The median home size in California is 1,860 square feet, compared to New York’s median of 1,490 square feet.

Cost to Move From New York to California

Moving costs will likely be substantial because 3,000 miles separate these two states. The price will depend on how many belongings you have, the distance from home to home, the time of year, and the services you need. An average move price is consequently difficult to estimate, but consider these moving quotes we received for a three-bedroom, long-distance move of 2,900 miles originating in Santa Rosa, California. This is the equivalent distance of moving between California and New York. All moving quotes include full packing.

A self-service move involves hiring a truck, packing your belongings yourself, and unpacking them on your own. Partial service may refer to boxing your own items but having movers load the trucks and pad your furniture and large items. A full-service move includes all packing, loading, unloading, and driving.

Long-Distance Moving Companies

The best long-distance moving companies can handle the hassle of moving for you. Full-service movers are typically the most expensive, but their service provides tremendous peace of mind, particularly when it comes to moving large or delicate items such as antique furniture, pianos, and electronics. Professional movers know how to pad and secure these items so they won’t shift during transport. They’ll also make the most out of the available truck space, so you won’t rent a larger truck than you need.

Here are some of our picks for the best interstate moving companies to get you from the Empire State to the Golden State.

International Van Lines: IVL specializes in brokering long-distance moves, so you’ll be in good hands. They’re our top overall pick based on their quick quote process and robust cancellation policy.

American Van Lines: We recommend AVL for homeowners with antiques, art, or other high-value, fragile items, as they handle everything in-house.

Interstate Moving & Relocation Group: IMRG offers specific moving guides for major cities.

Allied Van Lines: Allied provides the best customer service experience available by offering a personal moving coordinator.

North American Van Lines: We recommend NAVL if you have high-end electronics or other specialty items.

DIY Tips to Save Money

A cross-country move is expensive, but there are ways to keep moving costs down.

Avoid moving during the peak season of May to August when moving companies are busiest.

Do as much as you can yourself, such as packing what you can and renting your own moving truck.

Downsize your belongings as you pack to save on truck space. Donations to Goodwill or other charities are tax-deductible.

Schedule everything as far in advance as possible to avoid extra fees.

Use suitcases, hampers, and towels before purchasing cardboard boxes and disposable padding.

Finding the Best Mover From New York to California

Remember these tips as you compare long-distance moving companies:

Get at least three quotes from different companies, and ask for binding estimates when possible.

Look at the company’s Better Business Bureau page for its rating, accreditation status, and customer reviews.

Look at the company’s cancellation policy to confirm your options for rescheduling or refunds.

Moving companies typically request a deposit up-front, particularly for large moves. Note that some deposits may be up to 50% of your total move cost.

Mention any specialty items you may have, including fine art, large musical instruments, hot tubs, vehicles such as ATVs or jet skis, or pool tables. These often cost extra to move.

The U.S. Department of Transportation requires interstate moving companies to maintain a current license, so ask the mover to provide proof of this license or look them up in the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration database.

Paperwork Needed to Move From New York to California

Prepare the following documentation as you prepare for your move from the East Coast to the West Coast:

California has its own Affordable Care Act healthcare marketplace called Covered California. Register here after your move if you don’t get healthcare through your job.

Change your address with your car insurance provider and update your policy. This insurance is often cheaper in California than in New York.

Check with the California Public Utilities Commission about setting up electricity, gas, and water. Most California utilities are provided by Pacific Gas & Electric, San Diego Gas & Electric, or Southern California Edison.

Complete a change-of-address form with the United States Postal Service and begin mail forwarding on your moving date. You can sign up for this service online or in person. Complimentary mail forwarding usually lasts one calendar year.

Keep your important documents, such as Social Security cards, birth certificates, and passports, on your person.

Homeowners insurance isn’t mandatory in California, but it is a good idea, and the same can be said for renters insurance. We strongly recommend you pay extra for disaster insurance, as forest fires and earthquakes are more common in California than elsewhere.

You’ll have 10 days to notify the Department of Motor Vehicles of your move once you arrive in California. The California DMV is heavily invested in online services, so you must navigate the website to schedule an appointment. Have your New York license, vehicle registration, and car title ready to bring with you.

Settling Into Life in California From New York

Coping with moving to a new city can be difficult, especially when considering the wildly dissimilar New York and California. Here are some tips to make this process easier:

California and the Bay Area, specifically, are known for microclimates. Dress in layers, and prepare for fog in coastal areas.

California has more changes in elevation than New York, especially in cities such as San Francisco. Be aware that walking several blocks may require you to go up and down steep hills.

California is a huge state that encompasses many different cultures and types of people. The beach culture of Southern California is different from the farming life of the Inland Empire, which in turn is very different from the tech focus of the Bay Area. Wherever you land, be open to new experiences.

Embrace the laid-back culture, and be patient with your new friends and colleagues.

If you like the outdoors, sample the many different environments California has to offer. Beaches, mountains, deserts, and forests will be within your reach.

Join new groups in your area instead of relying on social media for outreach. This may include professional organizations, churches, hobby groups, neighborhood organizations, and more.

Many California cities are far more spread out than those in New York, so give yourself extra time to get from one place to another. Remember that public transportation will likely be less available than it is in New York City.

Unpack quickly, and make your new home your own.

Most Popular Cities in California for New York Transplants

While California is more than just its major cities, consider these areas if you’re seeking a metropolitan home:

Los Angeles: LA is more than just Hollywood and the beach. It’s also home to a number of professional sports teams, research universities, and art and science museums.

Sacramento: Sacramento is one of the fastest-growing cities in California, thanks to its relatively low cost of living and numerous state government jobs. The state capital is also rife with Gold Rush history and is close to mountains, vineyards, and lakes.

San Diego: San Diego offers many historical landmarks that date back to the founding of California. The city is famous for its mild weather, naval base, proximity to Mexico, and yearly Comic-Con.

San Francisco: San Francisco is a densely populated peninsula located at the north end of the Bay. It’s famous for iconic landmarks such as the Golden Gate Bridge, Alcatraz, and the Transamerica Pyramid. San Francisco also has a robust public transportation network and a big-city feel.

San Jose: San Jose sits at the south end of the San Francisco Bay and is home to Silicon Valley and the booming tech industry. Real estate is extremely expensive, so many people who work in San Jose live in suburbs throughout the South and East Bay.

Make the process of moving from New York to California easier by hiring an experienced moving company that specializes in coordinating long-distance moves. Get quotes from multiple companies, trust your gut, and enjoy your new home in the Golden State.

Unlike many major cities that have a centralized public transportation system, the San Francisco Bay Area is made up of multiple regions, each with its own public transit system — many of which transport people both locally and into San Francisco. These different systems mean you have many options, but public transportation in San Francisco can be a bit confusing.

But no worry. We’ll explain all of the Bay Area’s transit systems, their shortcuts, how they connect, and how to use buses, cable cars, light rail, and BART. Read on to learn the best ways to get around San Francisco and the Bay Area.

What public transportation is available in San Francisco?

Let’s start with the breakdown of the different public transit systems in the Bay Area and San Francisco, starting with:

What is the difference between BART and Muni?

BEARD

While BART — short for Bay Area Rapid Transit — is probably San Francisco’s best-known transit, it’s actually a regional rail system. BART has a handful of overground and underground train lines that connect cities in the East Bay to the Peninsula via a central main line through San Francisco. (Each line is a different color and identified by its final destination.) BART provides excellent access to both Oakland International Airport and San Francisco International Airport. to get from the East Bay to San Francisco; and to get to some of the city’s key neighborhoods, such as the Mission, the Financial District, and the Embarcadero. However, due to its limited route through the city’s central corridor, BART is not the primary mode of transportation in San Francisco.

A BART train.

Mark Miller Photos/Getty Images

Insider tip: When I was in college at Berkeley, many a night ended up sprinting for the last train back to the East Bay since BART stopped running around midnight. Luckily, there’s an all-nighter bus service these days, serving a handful of routes roughly every 30 minutes from midnight to 5am

View the full BART map here and use the trip planner to plan your next ride.

ammunition

Operated by SFMTA (San Francisco Municipal Transit Agency) – this acronym can be found at train stations across the city – “Muni” stands for “Municipal”. Muni is the most used form of public transportation in San Francisco and is the best way to get around the city. Muni includes: buses and electric bus trolleys, light rail subways, and the historic cable cars and streetcars that San Francisco is famous for.

In addition to the Muni, there is also some free public transport to get people to and from the city’s main parks. The Presidio GO is a free shuttle that travels around the Presidio and also provides service to downtown and the Embarcadero BART station. Golden Gate Park also offers free shuttle service around the park.

Two Muni Metro light rail cars pass each other in the Outer Sunset neighborhood of San Francisco.

Spondylolithesis/Getty Images/iStockphoto

insider tip: Don’t be confused if you hear someone say, “Let’s take Muni” to refer specifically to the light rail – although “Muni” encompasses the entire transportation system, some people use it to refer to the inner-city subway facility, to be different from BART. For other means of transport, one might be a bit more specific, even if they are also part of Muni: “Let’s take the bus”, “Let’s take the cable car”, etc.

The full Muni system map can be found here. You can also use Muni’s travel planner to navigate around the city.

Connection to the city from the region

Since each county and county in the area has its own public transit system, you should also learn about the other major Bay Area public transit systems that serve San Francisco. There are over a dozen smaller ones, but the biggest are:

Most of these systems use buses, while BART and Caltrain run trains, and Muni and VTA have light rail subways in addition to buses. There are also a number of commuter ferries to cross the bay, including boats operated by Golden Gate Ferry and San Francisco Bay Ferry.

insider tip: The 511.org website has the most comprehensive information on all the different agencies. However, since the service has ditched its trip planner, Google Maps — with public transit as a transportation option — is actually one of the best ways to plan your route across multiple agencies and factor in public transit. Being able to cycle between different stops and transit points saves you a lot of time and allows you to get to know the city in a new way.

How to use public transportation in SF

Most public transit in San Francisco is not free, but there are discounts for seniors and students. There are also tickets for unlimited travel for set periods and volume discounts.

Muni has a $5 daily pass for unlimited rides — except on cable cars. Because the cable cars are such a popular tourist destination, the ride is one-way only (it is not possible to transfer between the cable cars).

You can purchase tickets and pay the fare at the BART and Muni stations before walking through the gates. Muni also has its own app, or you can pay cash when boarding Muni buses (but not subway lines). Muni buses use a proof of payment system, which means there are fare inspectors who board the bus and hand out fines to passengers who have not paid.

BART will only issue tickets on a plastic Clipper card when you purchase your BART fare. This is confusing considering I just told you there are so many different transport systems, but it helps so be patient: In fact, the Clipper Card works on all public transit systems in the Bay Area and when you register it with an account, discounts are automatically applied – making it the easiest way to pay and multi-route. You can purchase a Clipper card at BART stations before boarding the train, at attendant kiosks, and at some Walgreens locations; You can also set up Clipper on your phone.

Insider tip: BART and CalTrain require you to tap your Clipper card twice: once when boarding and once when disembarking. However, there is no need to get off Muni buses or light rail, as fares do not depend on the distance traveled (instead, each fare is for 120 minutes, including all transfers).

Should you drive or use public transport?

The answer really depends on where you are going. Most public transportation in San Francisco is located downtown and along the main corridor of Market Street. Once you get further out, say in the Sunset or Richmond neighborhoods, there are far fewer options and stops. However, there are many buses that serve these more remote areas and cycling can be easier here as it is less dense. The streets are a bit wider and there are designated Slow Streets where speed limits and traffic are restricted. With a little planning, it’s entirely possible to navigate the city without a car – it also saves you the stress of parking and traffic.

Most regional transit systems are also designed to carry people downtown, to SoMa, and along Market Street. That’s because regional public transport is primarily a commuter service and therefore focuses on getting people to and from where most offices are located – downtown, at least in pre-Corona times. The Salesforce Transit Center between Mission and Howard on 1st Street is also a major transportation hub for transfers between Muni, Golden Gate Transit, AC Transit, SamTrans and even Greyhound. (The CalTrain main station is a little further south on 4th Street, near Mission Bay and Oracle Park.)

All of this means that it’s easiest to get around in the core downtown area. It’s also terrible to drive and park in this area – recently it took me 20 minutes to cover a half mile during morning rush hour. So if you’re visiting popular travel destinations, attending major events or games, or traveling on common commutes, use public transportation. However, if you plan to travel more to the outskirts of town or for hikes and nearby small towns, you may need to consider other options, including driving or hiring a ride-sharing service.

Insider tip: Most games, concerts and events in San Francisco are connected by public transportation, saving you money and time. For example, there are special ferries that go directly to Oracle Park for Giants games and Pier 48 ½ for Warriors games. Muni also offers an express service to the new Chase Center on event days.

Colorado Senate Bill 213 will make housing less affordable and increase greenhouse gas emissions. This is exactly the opposite of what its proponents claim.

Polls show that 80 percent of Americans want to live in single-family homes. Recent census data shows that more than 80 percent of residents in 14 states live in single-family homes.

Colorado isn’t one of them.

Census data also shows that more than 80 percent of residents in more than 30 percent of the country’s urban areas live in single-family homes.

The Denver metropolitan area is not one of them.

Neither are the Boulder, Ft. Collins or Longmont urban areas. However, more than 80 percent of residents in the urban areas of Colorado Springs and Pueblo live in single-family homes. In the Pueblo it is almost 85 percent.

Boulder and Denver don’t miss out, with more people wanting to live in apartments than other parts of the country. But because the planners deliberately made the single-family house more expensive by making new construction outside the city limits more difficult.

Boulder has a vast green belt that has helped make it the least affordable urban area in the nation outside of California or Hawaii. Denver has an urban growth frontier that has nearly doubled the cost of single-family homes. Meanwhile, El Paso and Pueblo counties have some of the least restrictive zoning in the state, allowing more Colorado Springs and Pueblo residents to achieve their single-family home dreams.

Dense does not mean affordable

SB-213 supporters claim it will make housing more affordable. In fact, this makes it less affordable.

The House amended bill requires many cities to change zoning ordinances to allow developers to demolish single-family homes and replace them with high-density housing developments near busy bus routes and light rail stations (a statewide mandate for such upzoning was removed from the Senate bill). ).

In other words, the bill will reduce the supply of housing that at least 80 percent of Colorado residents want to live in. This will drive up the price of the remaining single family homes in these areas and make housing less affordable, not more affordable.

Imagine there was a shortage of pickups. Since pickup trucks are used by plumbers, electricians, and other contractors, the shortage drove up all sorts of costs. A pickup weighs as much as two small cars. To alleviate the shortage, the Colorado legislature is proposing a bill to scrap pickup trucks and use the materials to build small cars. Would that alleviate the pickup shortage? Obviously not. Still, some Colorado lawmakers believe that replacing homes that people want with homes that people don’t want will make housing more affordable. It will not.

SB-213 also asks cities to allow the construction of so-called transit-oriented developments. You may have seen these mid-rise (four- to six-story) apartment buildings popping up all over Metro Denver and other Colorado cities.

These stack-n-pack developments are hardly affordable. As California developer Nicholas Arenson recently testified before a planning commission in San Francisco, the need for more steel, concrete and elevators makes building such apartments much more expensive per square foot than single-family homes. The demand for living in them is low, so most of them are subsidized.

Even with subsidies, these mid-size apartments are only “affordable” because they are broken up into small apartments, often 1,000 square feet or less. In some of these buildings, the rent for a 900-square-foot apartment is more than the monthly mortgage payment for a 2,000-square-foot home in Colorado Springs or another city that doesn’t severely restrict rural development.

SB-213 is based on a flawed premise: that denser cities are more affordable. In fact, the opposite is the case. As can be seen from the chart comparing housing affordability versus density in the country’s 100 largest urban areas, the country’s densely populated urban areas are the least affordable, while the cheapest urban areas have the lowest density.

As the blue trendline shows, census data shows that density is making housing less affordable. The 2020 census calculated the population density of the largest urban areas in the country. The Census Bureau’s 2021 American Community Survey measured median home values and median family incomes in 2020. Housing affordability is commonly measured by dividing median housing value by median family income; 3 or less is affordable, 4 is marginally affordable, 5 or more is unaffordable. For the 100 largest urban areas in the country shown in this chart, the correlation between density and unaffordability is 0.8, meaning this is far from coincidental.

Sprawl is not a swear word

Planners also say urban growth limits and other rural land-use restrictions help protect farms, forests and open spaces. But the 2010 census found that all urban areas in Colorado covered just 1.5 percent of the state. Data from the 2020 census shows it’s still just 1.5 percent. So-called urban sprawl (which is really just people living the American single-family dream) is no threat to Colorado’s farms, forests or open spaces.

Density does not reduce greenhouse gases

The planners admit that SB-213 will build homes that people don’t want to live in. But they say Colorado needs to force people to live in denser settlements to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. They are wrong about that too.

Data from the Department of Energy suggests that people living in more densely populated areas tend to drive slightly less. But data shows they also slow down in heavy traffic, which wastes more fuel. As a result, driving in densely populated urban areas uses more energy and emits more greenhouse gases per capita than driving in sparsely populated areas. If Colorado is to be climate-friendly, it must allow more people to live in sparsely populated single-family neighborhoods.

Senate Bill 213 is not about making housing more affordable. Nor is it about reducing greenhouse gas emissions. It’s about government trying to force people to do things they don’t want to live, including a commitment to forcing more people to rent cramped apartments rather than owning their own homes. The legislature should resolutely reject this bill.

If Colorado wants to make housing more affordable, it should remove city growth limits and other constraints on rural land development. Yes, that could result in urban areas covering 1.6 or 1.7 percent of the state instead of just 1.5 percent. But isn’t that better than forcing young families to leave the state because they can’t afford housing in Colorado?

Evan Peters and his father “Dahmer – Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story”. Richard Jenkins are the favorites to take home the Emmys for Best Actor in a Limited Series/TV-Movie and Best Supporting Actor in a Limited Series/TV-Movie, respectively. They’re already Emmy winners in opposite categories, and if they prevail in September, they’ll join a small group of men who have won both limited awards and made-for-television awards.

Just six actors have swept both categories, which have undergone various name changes over the years. Laurence Olivier reigns with a total of five trophies. He has four leads for “The Moon and Sixpence” (1960), “Long Day’s Journey into Night” (1973), “Love Among the Ruins” (1975) and “King Lear” (1984) and one as support for ” Brideshead Reunion’ (1982).

Michael Moriarty has four, but they are asterisked. He has had leading and supporting characters in The Holocaust (1978) and James Dean (2002), respectively, and won two Emmys for the 1974 TV movie The Glass Menagerie. Prior to the making of the 1975 limited television film Supporting Actors, supporting actors competed in supporting roles for drama or comedy, so Moriarty won Best Supporting Actor in a Drama About His Co-Star for The Glass Menagerie Sam Waterston and series regulars MichaelDouglas (“The Streets of San Francisco”) and Will Geer (“The Waltons”). It was also the year of the rash Super Emmys, pitting individual genre winners against each other. Moriarty defeated the champion for Best Comedy Supporting Actor Rob Reiner (“All in the Family”) to win Supporting Actor of the Year.

Next in line are Hume Cronyn And Beau Bridges, each having three. Cronyn is a two-time lead actor for Age-Old Friends (1990) and To Dance with the White Dog (1994). Between those wins, he snagged an assisting trophy for “Broadway Bound” in 1992. Bridges triumphed in the lead for Without Warning: The James Brady Story in 1992 and added a side win for The Positively True Adventures of the Alleged Texas Cheerleader-Murdering Mom the following year. In 1997 he snagged his second supporting statuette for The Second Civil War.

SEE Emmy Predictions: Shows based on real events will (again) dominate the limited series field

Ed Flanders And George C Scott have a win in each category. Like Bridges, Flanders won two straight years, first as support on “A Moon for the Misbegotten” in 1976 and then as lead on “Harry S. Truman: Plain Speaking” in 1977. Scott scored a lead trophy for his ” Hallmark Hall of Fame episode The Price in 1971 (the same year he won and declined the Oscar for Patton) and collected his supporting bookend for 12 Angry Men in 1998.

Peters and Jenkins would join the last group. Both were victorious at their first and previously only Emmy Gold for HBO shows, bagging three acting trophies. Jenkins won the lead for “Olive Kitteridge” in 2015, while Peters won the side award for “Mare of Easttown” in 2021.

Peters leads at odds of 18/5 and has already won a Golden Globe for his performance Jeffrey Dahmer and also received a Screen Actors Guild Award nomination. Sam Eliot won the SAG award, but Peters needn’t worry about him at the Emmys as “1883” isn’t eligible. The first six are rounded off Egerton Conference (“Black Bird”), winner of the Critics Choice Award Daniel Radcliffe (“Strange: The Al Yankovic Story”), Woody Harrelson from the undated “White House Plumbers”, Michael Shannon (“George & Tammy”) and Steve Carl (“The patient”).

Closer is the supporting actor race between Jenkins (odds 19/5) and No. 2 Paul Walter Houses (4/1), who defeated Jenkins at the Globes with his own chilling twist as a suspected serial killer Larry Hall on “Black Bird”. Jenkins hasn’t met another Precursor outside of the Globes, but “Monster’s” visibility and popularity and soft category should make him safe for at least a nom. Domhnall Gleeson (“The Patient”) is third, followed by the late Ray Liotta (“Black bird”), Jharrel Jerome from “Full Circle”, which also has no release date yet, reigning champion Murray Bartlett (“Welcome to Chippendales”) and Dennis Quaid also from “Full Circle”.

Crustacean is preparing for a big move: After 32 years at its Polk Street location, the restaurant is nearing the end of its lease and is slated to move downtown to 191 Pine Street, reports the San Francisco Business Times. The new space will be larger at 5,686 square feet and will have a much larger kitchen. (And yes, the Business Times has confirmed that another “secret kitchen” will be built into the new location for chef Helene An.)

Construction on the new premises began last week and restaurant group House of An confirmed they plan to open the new location at the end of the year in time for the holiday season.

Silver Oak takes over a neighboring winery with a new purchase

Napa’s Silver Oak Cellars is poised to expand its local presence with the recent purchase of State Ranch Vineyard, which owns 36 acres of grapes, reports the San Francisco Chronicle. The selling price was not disclosed, but the move was seen as “a way to ensure there will be enough grapes for years to come”.

A food truck finds its permanent home

Cochinita served Yucatan food as a food truck for years, and now the San Francisco Standard reports that the owners are preparing their permanent South San Francisco restaurant to open in late April. The move will allow partners Karen Gonzalez and Sergio Albornoz to expand their menu by adding things like Yucatec tamales and Relleno Negro.

The Tai San restaurant is set to close after 30 years

Fans of Berkeley’s long-established Tai San restaurant have until the end of the month to visit before it closes for good, reports East Bay Nosh. The Elmwood restaurant opened in 1986 and serves Chinese take-out, but now the owner told the news outlet they were closing because “not enough business, rent, everything, you know! Everything.” Last business day is Tuesday 28 February.

MILWAUKEE — Garrett Mitchell hit an RBI double and the Milwaukee Brewers withstood Freddy Peralta’s early exit to beat the San Francisco Giants 4-2 and complete a doubleheader sweep Thursday night.

In the opening game, Corbin Burnes struck out 14 and allowed three hits in eight shutout innings in a 2-1 victory.

Peralta left the second game due to fatigue in his right shoulder after walking Tommy La Stella to lead off the third inning. The Brewers led 3-0 at the time.

The Brewers are at home for 20 of their last 26 games, a stretch that started with this double header. They’re hoping that schedule helps them go on a late surge as they attempt to chase down the Philadelphia Phillies and San Diego Padres for the NL’s final wild-card spots.

“Having all these home games at the end is definitely going to help us with this playoff push, but it takes some good baseball for us to get in there,” Burnes said.

Burnes entered this doubleheader having allowed 17 earned runs in 21 innings over his last four starts. But he dominated the Giants and showcased the form that enabled him to win the NL Cy Young Award last season.

He struck out 10 or more batters for the ninth time this season to tie the Brewers’ single-season record set by Ben Sheets in 2004. Burnes (10-6) also holds the franchise record for double-digit strikeout games with 21.

The 14 strikeouts were one off Burnes’ career high. He had 15 in a 10-0 victory over the Chicago Cubs on Aug. 11, 2021.

“Nothing new,” Giants manager Gabe Kapler said. “That’s Corbin Burnes. That was as good as we’ve seen him. His stuff was carrying through the zone. He was hitting the top of the zone. His cutter was working well. The ball was moving all over the place. It’s tough to name five better starters in baseball.”

Burnes needed to be at his best to outduel San Francisco’s Jakob Junis (4-5), who struck out four and allowed three hits, two runs and two walks in six innings. Junis entered in the second inning, relieving opener Scott Alexander.

The Giants opened the scoring in the third inning as LaMonte Ward hit a two-out single and came home on Mike Yastrzemski’s double. Milwaukee’s Christian Yelich and Hunter Renfroe hit consecutive RBI doubles in the fourth.

Milwaukee took the lead for good in the second game by scoring three runs in the first inning off Alex Young (0-1). Only one of the runs was earned.

Joc Pederson homered for the Giants in the second game.

Milwaukee’s Peter Strzelecki (2-1) pitched two innings of scoreless relief to get the win in the second game.

Devin Williams got his 11th save in 12 opportunities in the first game. Taylor Rogers finished the second game for his 31st save in 39 opportunities.

The two teams combined for just 16 hits in the double header. The Brewers had nine and the Giants had seven.

SIBLING RIVALRIES

This doubleheader had two sets of brothers facing off.

Taylor Rogers and Giants reliever Tyler Rogers are identical twins. San Francisco’s Scott Alexander is the older brother of Brewers right-hander Jason Alexander.

Jason Alexander is the Brewers’ scheduled starter Friday, so he was unlikely to pitch in Thursday’s doubleheader.

According to Elias Sports Bureau, the last time two sets of brothers played against each other in the same game was Aug. 6, 1977, when St. Louis’ Hector Cruz and Bob Forsch and Houston’s Jose Cruz and Ken Forsch all played in a game the Cardinals won 3-1. Elias’ records only accounted for instances in which all four siblings saw action in the game.

TRAINER’S ROOM

Brewers IF Luis Urías was hit in the helmet by a pitch from Sean Hjelle in the sixth inning of the second game. Urías remained in the game after a brief delay.

RHP Justin Topa was designated as the Brewers’ 29th man for the doubleheader. Topa hadn’t pitched in the majors since Sept. 3, 2021, as he recovered from a third elbow surgery. … The Brewers also reinstated INF Mike Brosseau (right oblique) from the injured list and optioned OF Esteury Ruiz to Triple-A Nashville.

UP NEXT

Giants: Stay on the road to begin a three-game series with the Chicago Cubs. Scheduled starters Friday are LHP Carlos Rodón (12-7, 2.92 ERA) for the Giants and LHP Drew Smyly (5-8, 3.84) for the Cubs.

Brewers: Stay home to start a three-game series with the Cincinnati Reds. Jason Alexander (2-2, 5.03) starts for the Brewers on Friday with LHP Nick Lodolo (3-5, 3.95) pitching for the Reds.

Standing, left to right: Daniel Byrnes, Christopher Zilli, Andrew Keppler, Hassan Bias, and Stony Brook Local 614 President Carlos Speight; seated, John Lopez; not pictured, Kenneth Gifft and Joseph Lorio

In Spring 2020, a unique collaboration formed between the Electrical Training Center in Copiague, NY, and several Stony Brook University groups to build an HVAC (Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning) apprenticeship program that would provide graduates with critical skills needed to serve the changing HVAC demands from both the university and hospital.

CSEA Local 614, through the State CSEA Partnership Program, worked in tandem with Stony Brook University’s Human Resources, Labor Relations, and Campus Operations and Maintenance teams to establish an apprenticeship program that would provide eligible Civil Service employees with the opportunity to acquire HVAC skills and experience needed in the workforce. Graduates earn a Grade 12 in the Service and Repair Mechanic (HVAC) title series.

“These positions are absolutely critical in providing necessities like heat, hot water, ventilation, air conditioning and electrical distribution to the entire university and hospital community,” noted Terence Harrigan, associate vice president for Campus Operations and Maintenance. “Through hard work and dedication, each of these graduates is now armed with an increased skill set to serve the changing needs and demands of the university and hospital.”

The following graduates started and completed the pilot program during the pandemic:
