JEFFERSON CITY, Missouri — The Missouri State Capitol was transformed into an extension of the Chiefs’ kingdom this week, and fans are flocking from across the state to see one of the sport’s most sacred grails.

It was an unusual day in Missouri politics Tuesday at the Capitol as the Super Bowl trophy stood front and center in the rotunda. Thousands of fans flocked to Jefferson City to see the Chiefs’ Lombardi Trophy at its first stop on the team’s Chiefs’ Champions Tour.

“It’s so cool,” said Cameron Stephens just moments after snapping his picture with the trophy. “It was like being a kid again and dreaming you were holding it. You’re in the NFL.”

Hundreds lined up Tuesday to pose for a photo op with the Kansas City Chiefs’ LVII Lombardi Trophy.

“We didn’t get to see the parade or the trophy, so that’s what we wanted to do and it’s sort of a check off the wish list,” said Andrew Barnes of Jefferson City.

Even heads of state became children for children when the trophy was displayed to fans of all ages from across the state.

“It’s a very special day to say the least and being a lifelong Chiefs fan is pretty cool too, being governor when you have a Super Bowl trophy in your office,” Gov. Mike Parson said.

When asked why 9-year-old Elliot Stierferman, from Frankenstein, Missouri, is a fan of the Chiefs, he said, “Because they’re the best team in the NFL.” Stierferman stood with his family for more than an hour the snake and waited for the trophy.

“I only saw it on TV,” Stierferman said.

When the Chiefs won Super Bowl LIV against the San Francisco 49ers in 2020, fans couldn’t celebrate with the team because of the pandemic, so this time the team is making up for it.

“I mean, regular people, working people, there are no special tickets, there is no one better than anyone that comes in, everyone has a chance to be there alongside this trophy,” Parson said.

Barnes came with his wife Claudia to view the trophy. Jefferson City residents are hoping the Chiefs’ Super Bowl win will become a trend.

“I think the game was another highlight of my life, especially with the likes of Kelce and Mahomes,” Barnes said. “We just have everything and I hope we can try again.”

Share your love for the Kansas City Chiefs as you await your moment with the Lombardi Trophy. Others are waiting for the next season to start.

“You can see the Capitol too, it’s like two for one,” Stephen said. “And then it’s a long off-season, so there’s everything to fill the void that’s waiting for the next kick-off.”

Myles Wilson and his father and brother traveled from Hallsville Tuesday morning to be second in line to get their photo with the trophy. When asked why he was wearing Patrick Mahomes’ jersey, he replied because he was the best.

“He’s my favorite on the team,” Wilson said. “Go, chiefs!”

The Lombardi Trophy will be on display again on Wednesday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the Capitol Rotunda. The next stops on the tour will then be in Kansas.

The Chiefs’ Champions Tour is a branded mobile experience bringing the Chiefs to communities across the region.

Kansas City Chiefs at San Francisco 49ers Betting Odds, Picks, and Predictions for Week 7

The Chiefs (4-2) head into Levi’s Stadium to take on the 49ers (3-3) in an interconference clash that also serves as a rematch of Super Bowl LIV. Both teams come looking to rebound from Week 6 losses – Kansas City dropped a 24-20 decision at Arrowhead Stadium to the Bills, while San Francisco surprisingly fell to the Falcons by a 28-14 margin on the road.

*Best lines at time of writing listed

money line: Chiefs -120 (DraftKings Sportsbook)/ 49ers +114 (FanDuel Sportsbook)

Point spread: Chiefs -1 (PointsBet Sportsbook)/ 49ers +1.5 (FanDuel Sportsbook)

Total: Over 48.5 points (FanDuel Sportsbook)/ Under 49 points (PointsBet Sportsbook)

The 49ers opened as 1.5-point underdogs when the line was first released last week, and the number had seen an interesting trajectory since. The Chiefs saw their projected advantage swell up to -3 following Week 6 outcomes, but the seismic development of the Christian McCaffrey acquisition by San Francisco predictably had an impact on the number once news broke late Thursday. Even though there still isn’t any certainty as to how many snaps, if any, McCaffrey will play, the number has taken a dive to as much as -1 as of Saturday morning.

The total has also seen some interesting movement, opening at a relatively modest 47.5 before dipping all the way to 46 in the immediate aftermath of Week 6. However, the number began an ascension shortly thereafter and has gotten back up as high as 49 following the McCaffrey news. These two teams combined for 50 points back in Super Bowl LIV while being led by the same quarterbacks, although a vital offensive weapon for KC, Tyreek Hill, is naturally no longer on the roster.

Kansas City Chiefs at San Francisco 49ers Betting Picks This Week

Concerns about the Chiefs being a much less potent offense without Tyreek Hill have largely proven unfounded through the first six games of the season, as Patrick Mahomes has proven he is unquestionably the one indispensable cog in the offensive machine. Mahomes is averaging 289.3 passing yards per game and owns a 17:4 TD:INT, but he does have a thorny matchup on his hands in this Week 7 interconference clash. The 49ers defense has been elite for the most part, and even last week’s surprising upset came with San Fran missing a slew of key players on that side of the ball.

The good news for the Niners is that Nick Bosa and Jimmie Ward both return for this key showdown, which should make a significant impact. San Francisco already comes in allowing the second-fewest passing yards per game (168.3) and yards per completion (8.3), and the Niners have also compiled the second-most sacks (23). Mahomes has been protected pretty well (11 sacks in six games), but KC’s offensive line will be facing pressure like it hasn’t seen all season, even versus Buffalo.

While Andy Reid doesn’t pay much mind to his running game unless he’s forced to, it’s also worth noting he’s unlikely to find much success whenever he does try to deploy his ground forces. The Niners are essentially just as difficult to run on as they are to pass against, coming in allowing an AFC-low 87.5 rushing yards per game and 3.1 RB yards per carry. San Fran also ranks No. 1 in both second-level and open-field yards allowed, making chunk plays against them on the ground virtually non-existent.

Meanwhile, the matchup shapes a bit more palatable for the Niners offense, with or without McCaffrey’s services. The Chiefs have allowed 266 passing yards per game, including 304.7 per contest in the last three. KC is also giving up an elevated 10.8 yards per completion in that latter span, while Jimmy Garoppolo has a fully healthy pass-catching corps at his disposal and is coming off having thrown for a season-high 296 yards against the Falcons.

Jeff Wilson is certainly no slouch, so if McCaffrey sits out altogether or has a very limited role, the Niners running game will still be in fine shape. Wilson is averaging 4.9 yards per carry and had gained at least 74 rushing yards in four consecutive starts before being limited to seven carries in Week 6 due to game script. The Chiefs have been tougher against the run than the pass, but they’re still allowing 4.2 RB yards per carry and hold a No. 23 ranking in second-level yards allowed. KC also is the most generous team in the league in terms of allowing receiving production to RBs, giving up an NFL-high 56 receptions and 390 receiving yards to the position.

The Niners, and their fan base for that matter, are undoubtedly reinvigorated by the McCaffrey acquisition and also hungry to atone for the ugly Week 6 loss. San Fran’s defense should be in much better health and form, and it will help keep matters very close at home, if not lead the Niners to an outright upset.

Chiefs at 49ers Best Bet: 49ers +1.5 (-105 at FanDuel Sportsbook)

If you’re not yet signed up at FanDuel Sportsbook, use RotoWire’s FanDuel Promo Code to take advantage of a $1,000 no-sweat first bet offer.

Kansas City Chiefs at San Francisco 49ers prediction

49ers 24, Chiefs 21

As mentioned, the 49ers get some key players on defense back this week, and that should make a significant difference. San Francisco should be able to hit some plays through the air against what has been an inconsistent Chiefs secondary, and KC’s passing attack, while potent, should have similar difficulty establishing series-to-series rhythm as it did for stretches of the Week 6 loss to the Bills.

Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs (4-2) have had a tough schedule to start the 2022 NFL regular season, and it doesn’t get much easier when they travel to San Francisco to take on Jimmy Garoppolo’s 49ers (3-3) .

Can Mahomes, Travis Kelce and the Chiefs rebound from a narrow Week 6 loss to the Bills? Or will Garoppolo, Deebo Samuel and San Francisco find a groove at home? There were some who predicted this as a Super Bowl 2023 matchup at the start of this season. The game is set to kick off Sunday at 4:25 pm ET from Levi’s Stadium.

Here’s a look at the betting details and USA TODAY’s NFL staff picks for the Chiefs vs. 49ers Week 7 game:

Chiefs at 49ers odds, moneyline and over/under

Follow every game: Live NFL Scores

NFL WEEK 6 DRIP CHECK:Travis Kelce shines brightly; Sauce Gardner embraces the cheesehead

GETTING THERE:Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes believes rivalry with Josh Allen isn’t yet Brady-Manning level

NEW LIDS:The NFL has returned alternate helmets in 2022: Ranking all 13 from best to worst

NFL Week 7 odds, predictions and picks

Saints vs Cardinals | Colts vs Titans | Packers vs Commanders | Falcons vs Bengals | Browns vs Ravens | Giants vs Jaguars | Buccaneers vs Panthers | Lions vs Cowboys | Jets vs Broncos | Texans vs Raiders | Chiefs vs 49ers | Seahawks vs Chargers | Steelers vs Dolphins | Bears vs Patriots

Lorenzo Reyes: Chiefs 28, 49ers 23

San Francisco can be so mercurial and I still have the Chiefs as one of the three best teams in the NFL, despite their close loss to the Bills. Kansas City doesn’t tend to lose consecutive games under Andy Reid and Patrick Mahomes and because the Niners’ defense is as banged up as it is, it’s easy to see KC putting up points and covering, despite being on the road.

Safid Deen: Chiefs 27, 49ers 24

Patrick Mahomes threw two interceptions and now faces a vaunted 49ers defense that could be affected if San Francisco star defender Nick Bosa (groin) doesn’t play. Still, I take Mahomes’ firepower over Jimmy Garoppolo’s in this Super Bowl LIV rematch.

Lance Pugmire: 49ers 31, Chiefs 28

Super Bowl revenge for Jimmy G? Yes, the 49ers coughed one up in Atlanta Sunday, but they also watched how Buffalo defended Patrick Mahomes and Co., and the Sunday night game’s in the Bay Area.

NFL WEEK 6 WINNERS AND LOSERS:Bills, Chiefs are top AFC contenders; Bucs struggle in red zone

32 THINGS:Bill’s bag Chiefs; ‘Who Dey?’ Trump’s ‘Who Dat?’

When the Kansas City Chiefs entered their first preseason match against the San Francisco 49ers on Saturday night, they looked a little understaffed on the defensive. Due to short-term injury issues, key players such as defensive ends Frank Clark, Taco Charlton and Alex Okafor did not fit.

This meant an increased workload for the remaining defensive linemen – and at first glance these players improved and showed depth of quality for defensive line coach Brendan Daly.

Defense run

In general, the line did a solid job of keeping the point of attack on the front of the running game.

Chiefs DL showed promising game identification and strength to the point of attack last night. Here Danna, Wharton, and Reed all flow down the line, holding gaps. Jones also demonstrates the workmanship and athleticism required to close on the back of SF’s stretch runs. pic.twitter.com/xatRNHGvZz

Another high quality demonstration of strength, leverage, and toughness from Saunders, Danna, and Reed. Linebackers fill up well. Only in the back is there not much space to work. pic.twitter.com/VRo6XvCb8e

– Bryan Stewart (@BryanStewart_) August 16, 2021

In his first start as the primary defensive end, Chris Jones showed the quickness and agility to avoid blocks and showed that he won’t just be a great target for offensive tackles and tight ends.

One small but important thing in my opinion: see how quick and agile Jones is to avoid the TE clipping to him on the back. In addition, Danna again with textbook pad level and overall technique on the front of this run. pic.twitter.com/gD5t3IIWfO

– Bryan Stewart (@BryanStewart_) August 16, 2021

Mike Danna, who ended up on the defensive in his sophomore year, was also a steady, constant presence against the run, picking up where he left off last year.

But it wasn’t all perfect. Although exhibiting several exciting traits at other moments in the game, player identification and decision-making occasionally won the best of some of the young defenders.

Kaandoh had some rookie moments on Saturday, in addition to some positive flashes to be expected in his first game action. Late to see the reverse action in the first clip, he jumps in a little too quickly in the second, allowing the RB to ricochet off over 10 yards. pic.twitter.com/Gm9iVurCPa

Despite the impressive sophomore defensive tackle that Tershawn Wharton continues to see in one-on-one situations – especially as a pass rusher – asking him to hold out against doubles is still a big job.

Wharton has freaky athletic traits and the strength required to do well in most 1-on-1 situations, but here the lack of size / strength means he’s being washed away by a Guard + Tackle combo block. TE Slice Block gets a solid piece of harris, but Thornhill scrapes over to make a nice tackle. pic.twitter.com/b74FdODDBX

Passport Defense

Defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo wasted no time in throwing lightning bolts of five and six at 49ers rookie quarterback Trey Lance. These were largely successful in various ways for the defense line.

Spags throws a six man pressure on Lance and he certainly isn’t getting the ball out as fast as he’d go back and would like to. What is remarkable, however, is the lateral speed that “Bink” Saunders flashes to beat the LG here. pic.twitter.com/l5bBFvsx9S

– Bryan Stewart (@BryanStewart_) August 15, 2021

#Chiefs send five on this 3rd-and-8, and while the pressure is limited elsewhere, Jones just does what he does and dominates his 1-on-1 match (Sorensen may have had an easy assist; either way it was ) shortly before victory when his hips had free the RG). pic.twitter.com/XApQDTzdbZ

It was great to see Chris Jones pick up right where he left off and quickly win from inside. The team’s new free-agent defensive tackle, Jarran Reed, also showed off some of the reasons he’s now part of the Chiefs roster, and demonstrated high productivity among the offensive guards.

Another 3rd-and-14 game, and Jarran Reed is very close to beating Garoppolo after battling his way through the repetition with good hands and mental strength. Danna and Harris lose on the edge even though they were both chipped before attacking the OT. pic.twitter.com/O0S5yaiFAz

– Bryan Stewart (@BryanStewart_) August 16, 2021

One area where the 49ers offense succeeded was in play-action-pass concepts. Given San Francisco’s propensity to rely on these games for explosive profits, this came as no surprise.

SF is notoriously good at game action concepts, and the Chiefs DL plays a disciplined, task-oriented style. On moves in which the DL does not get a lot of penetration and there are gaps in cover at the rear end, you have to forego some explosive moves. pic.twitter.com/pGeUTznGdH

– Bryan Stewart (@BryanStewart_) August 15, 2021

As the game progressed, the defensive linemen began to see more of what the offense was doing – resulting in intelligent, strenuous games like this one from Danna and Wharton.

Could be something or nothing, but Danna’s speed at changing direction seems to me to be improved on this piece. Starts the game with a great game ID, maintains good leverage. Plus, Wharton’s chase is second to none (!!) pic.twitter.com/4iV1MyGsgw

– Bryan Stewart (@BryanStewart_) August 15, 2021

In obvious passing situations throughout the game, the defense did a really solid job of putting pressure on quickly with at least one player. This is what you want – and expect – from a good, tenacious defensive front.

3rd and 14th The front four all poke their ears back, so you want them to win quick and get at least one body to QB quickly. Wharton, Kaindoh and Harris do just that, while Danna forms the double team (lined up above the LG). pic.twitter.com/wQcPEXxDGJ

– Bryan Stewart (@BryanStewart_) August 15, 2021

Defensive end Tim Ward – who was entering his third Chiefs season after developing on injured reserves and the training team over the past two years – shone with his passing noise. If he keeps making preseason appearances like on Saturday night, he’ll be a tough player to let out of the 53-man roster.

#Chiefs DE Tim Ward adjusted the snap a couple of times last night from a 3 point stance that would have been difficult with any offensive tackle. Also impacted the QB in both games. The last clip shows an enormous amount of effort, which apparently played a role in the fiddling. pic.twitter.com/7CbgafYXVG

– Bryan Stewart (@BryanStewart_) August 16, 2021

looking ahead

Deep players in the Chiefs’ defensive line usually continue to shine when opportunities arise. Daly deserves credit for developing many young talented players who constantly put tremendous efforts.

When the defensive ends, Clark, Charlton and Okafor can all come back – which helps increase the edge rush and general discipline of the group – there are many advantages among these players. Defensive tackles Derrick Nnadi combined with Reed to form an enormous number of run stuffers inside. Meanwhile, Jones is on a path that could make him a candidate for Defensive Player of the Year.

At full strength, the Chiefs’ current line of defense is bigger, stronger, smarter – and perhaps deeper – than it has been in some time. Both now and in the future, wear and tear will be your greatest opponent.
