SAN FRANCISCO (CBS SF) — A suspect who allegedly stole $3 million in a violent San Francisco home invasion robbery in March was captured in Taiwan and has been returned to the Bay Area to face charges.

San Francisco police said detectives had developed information that the suspect — 30-year-old Los Angeles resident Tianze Zhang — had fled to Taiwan shortly after the burglary.

An arrest warrant was issued and investigators immediately began working with the FBI and international law enforcement agencies to locate and apprehend Zhang.

On Monday, after several weeks of following leads and communicating with multiple law enforcement agencies, Zhang was detained in Taiwan.

He was immediately brought back to the Bay Area where he was booked into jail for felony burglary, felony kidnapping for robbery and felony terrorist threats.

Zhang is accused of forcing his way into a home in Bernal Heights at 5:30 pm on March 16. When officers arrived on scene, an adult female victim told them she was home alone when an unknown male suspect entered her home and physically restrained her , causing injuries.

The suspected demanded money, brandished a weapon and threatened further harm if she did not cooperate. The victim complied with the suspect’s demands, which allowed him to transfer nearly $3 million out of her account. The suspect also stole the victim’s cellular phones before fleeing the home.

While an arrest has been made this remains an open and active investigation. Anyone with information regarding this investigation is asked to call the SFPD Tip Line at 1-415-575-4444 or Text a Tip to TIP411 and begin the text message with SFPD. You may remain anonymous.

While some claim San Francisco has lost its offbeat spirit, Japanese photographer Sage Akaboshi (@pueo_in_sf) says otherwise in the street photography he’s amassed since arriving here eight years ago, according to an SF Gate article about Akaboshis eccentric images.

One of Akaboshi’s pictures made it onto the publication’s Instagram. The photo, which shows a dog with a Luigi doll on its back and a similarly colored F-line in the background, received critical acclaim. The photo shows Akaboshi’s amazing use of depth, balance and leading lines (not to mention the charming duo as focus).

“Actually, I saw the dog a few days earlier when I was taking a picture. When I saw that dog again, I wanted to take a picture of the dog without the owner, like the dog walking alone,” Akaboshi told SF Gate. “Back then, the F line happened to fit in with it [its] color faded.”

The quality of work is consistent for many of Akaboshi’s photographs, which display many characteristics of daily San Francisco life. Skateboarders, dogs, beautiful buildings and murals are common motifs in his work. Although nothing is off the table. If it gets his attention, his phone is off and ready. Considering his Instagram features a wide range of topics, viewers get a variety of San Francisco and what the city has to offer.

Akaboshi’s passion for photography came about by accident. He grew up in Japan, where he often carried around film or a Polaroid camera.

“When I was young, I happened upon a campaign for Polaroid cameras [in] in front of a shop with my friends and I spontaneously bought one and immediately took photos of my friends with the camera on the street,” Akaboshi said in a story with PetaPixel.

After moving to San Francisco, he began capturing interesting situations and people with whatever camera he had handy, be it the one on his Google Pixel smartphone or his Sony a5100, a mirrorless camera.

Akaboshi can be found all over the city, but especially in hotspots like Market Street or the Mission District, where foot traffic is heavy and options are rife. Other common locations are both around and on the San Francisco Muni trains. The natural patterns and frames of its structures coupled with unique events and people create magnificent images.

While much of his work involves candid portraiture, Akaboshi tries to get permission for most of his subjects. However, most street photographers find it difficult to catch everyone’s attention when they walk by.

“If I see someone really close, something like the outfit and item they have, I’ll talk to them first,” Akaboshi said.

Akaboshi tells PetaPixel that he hopes to have his work in exhibitions soon. At the moment, those who appreciate his work and the beauty of the city can always follow his Instagram.

“I hope to capture my visual interpretation of the city around me in the images,” Akaboshi said in the interview.

SONOMA COUNTY (CBS SF) – Santa Rosa police said Wednesday a mountain lion was found and captured after being sedated by wildlife experts outside a home in the Rincon Valley on Tuesday evening.

On Wednesday afternoon, the Santa Rosa Police Department posted information on their social media accounts, as well as photos of the mountain lion spotted late Tuesday.

At around 10 p.m., officials in the St. Francis Road and De Soto Drive area called for reports of a mountain lion sighting. When the officers arrived on site, they found a young mountain lion in the front yard of a residential building.

The mountain lion refused to move or leave the area despite several patrol cars glowing lights and making noise, police said. The mountain eventually began to move slowly but appeared to be injured or sick.

Officers stayed on site for nearly three hours while waiting for wildlife resources, during which time the mountain lion moved into the neighboring yard.

Police worked with local wildlife experts from several nonprofits – Sonoma Wildlife Rescue and True Wild – and an additional veterinarian, all of whom responded to the scene – as well as fish and wildlife officials. A tranquilizer dart was used by veterinarians to calm the mountain lion.

Experts from True Wild and Sonoma Wildlife Rescue took the mountain lion to a local wildlife sanctuary for observation. They said the mountain lion was a very young man, weighing about 45 pounds. It showed no obvious signs of injury or illness.

Wildlife experts planned to watch the mountain lion and conduct medical tests before determining the best course of action for the animal. The mountain lion has been in her care since Wednesday morning, he is doing well and is doing better. No additional information was available about the mountain lion’s potential medical problems.

Mountain lion sightings in the Bay Area have increased in recent months. Just last week, a wayward mountain lion instigated a lockdown in two Rohnert Park middle schools before being drugged and removed from the area.

Mountain lions have been caught in the shadow of surveillance cameras in Millbrae. A handful of residents in Oakland Hills and Piedmont said they saw mutilated deer carcasses in their neighborhood. One wildcat was even caught in a tree in San Francisco’s Bernal Heights neighborhood and transported to the Oakland Zoo, while another broke into a San Bruno home full of wildlife trophies.

More than half of the state is Mountain Lion Territory, and it’s not uncommon for them to show up in unexpected places, according to officials with the California Department of Fish and Wildlife.

The species usually migrates during the dry season in search of plenty of food and water, but it could travel further than usual as drought conditions increase and deer population declines, department spokesman Ken Paglia said.

“Be aware that we share the state with other wildlife, like mountain lions or bears, they are nearby,” said Paglia. “While they can be potentially dangerous, they are usually in the city looking for food resources and not there to harm us.”

Despite recent sightings, it is rare for a mountain lion to be attacked.

“We want to make sure the public is safe, but we also want the animal to live its life in its own habitat. That is probably the best solution, ”said Paglia.

Installing motion center lights around the property, keeping pets indoors at night, and storing food appropriately are some of the ways residents can avoid encounters with mountain lions. You can find more tips and tricks from the Mountain Lion Foundation online.

SAN FRANCISCO (CBS SF) – San Francisco animal control officers captured a mountain lion they cornered in a tree early Thursday morning in the Bernal Heights neighborhood of San Francisco.

Overnight, the mountain lion on Santa Maria Street near Mission Street was hit with a calming arrow.

CONTINUE READING: Governor Newsom signs environmental auditing bill that lights the San Jose Downtown West project in green

“It was pretty shocking. At first I thought it probably wasn’t real, ”said Bernal Heights resident Ruth Ferguson, who discovered the puma.

After a few minutes the puma climbed down the tree and up the front stairs of a house and was incapacitated on the porch of the house.

“We let the medication work for about 15 minutes. At this point we went up and rated and the mountain lion was well sedated. We limped, which is mainly so that when the mountain lion starts moving it doesn’t hurt itself and if for some reason it took an unusually long time to get it to the zoo, they wouldn’t have to stun it again before using the assessment can begin, ”said James Ober, Lt. of the California Department of Fish and Wildlife.

Fish and Wildlife staff then took it to Oakland Zoo for observation and examination before it was released into the wild.

Our veterinary clinic admitted a healthy, 2 year old male mountain lion around 1:00 a.m. this morning! He was found in the neighborhood of SF Bernal Heights. (It was previously looked after by @ucsc Puma Project)… pic.twitter.com/C6Mc8RFUZU

– Oakland Zoo (@oakzoo) May 20, 2021

Zoo officials tweeted that the healthy two-year-old male mountain lion had been vaccinated and blood tests done while he was at the zoo. The animal was also found previously tied up by the UC Santa Cruz Puma Project.

Oakland Zoo veterinarian Alex Herman affectionately called the big cat “Mister Handsome”.

“We’re basically going to give him an injection to make him fall asleep so we can handle him safely, but it’s also not stressful for him,” Herman explained. “We want this guy to have the best experience possible. So I’m going to do a full physical exam. “

CONTINUE READING: The Golden Gate National Recreation Area may increase some usage fees and parking fees in October

When asked how the mountain lion got to San Francisco, Dr. Herman, the distance traveled is not unusual.

“Well, it’s normal spreading behavior, so it’s normal for them to really move around the peninsula,” she said.

Where would the cat be released back into the wild?

“I can’t say where he will be released, but he probably won’t be returning to Santa Cruz because we don’t want him to find his way back to San Francisco,” Herman said.

The mountain lion was believed to be the same one spotted Tuesday morning in the Portola and Bernal Heights neighborhoods.

The mountain lion stands in a tree in Santa Marina near Mission. Animal control officers are on site and monitor the situation. California Fish & Wildlife is on the way to shoot and remove. pic.twitter.com/wCBYalUAmn

– SF Animal Care (@SFACC) May 20, 2021

Animal control officials said it was a young man who probably weighed between 120 and 130 pounds.

Warning signs were posted over the mountain lion on Tuesday, and residents were notified on Wednesday morning that the lion may still be in the area.

According to officials from the San Francisco Animal Care and Control Department, the surveillance video caught the animal roaming Gaven Street in the Portola neighborhood around 3:50 a.m. on Tuesday.
