June 27 (Reuters) – US law firm Baker Botts announced on Tuesday that it had hired a new intellectual property partner for its San Francisco office.

Rachael Lamkin has had a private practice focused on patent litigation since 2016. She said she will bring nearly all of her current clients to Texas-based Baker Botts.

Last year, Lamkin won two patent infringement suits for technology company Garmin that were collectively valued at about $1 billion, she said.

According to Baker Botts, Lamkin has represented clients before the US International Trade Commission, the US Court of International Trade, and federal district and appellate courts.

Earlier in her career, she served as Senior Associate General Counsel for the OtterBox, LifeProof and Blue Ocean brands.

She praised Baker Botts’ patent litigation department and said she is particularly looking forward to working with Lisa Kattan, chair of the firm’s ITC practice group.

It’s been a busy year for IP moves on the West Coast. Earlier this month, Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher, Cooley and Mintz, Levin, Cohn, Ferris, Glovsky and Popeo all hired IP litigators in California.

In March, a 30-person patent team moved from Dentons to DLA Piper in San Francisco, Silicon Valley and Seattle.
