While the Red Sox remain in a hot streak in July, the wins continue to move the ball club toward the ability to add more players at the MLB trade deadline next week.

In his notebook article Monday, The Athletic’s Ken Rosenthal highlighted the progress the Red Sox have made in positioning themselves with potential buyers and sellers.

Here’s what Rosenthal wrote for the Red Sox in the coming week:

Coming out of the All-Star break, I wrote about six teams on the bubble. As I mentioned earlier, the buy/sell decision isn’t always an either/or decision, and multiple teams are likely to do both at the same time. Still, at this point, the Mets are probably selling more than they’re buying, the Red Sox and Padres are buying more than they’re selling.

With the Red Sox nearing their upcoming series against the Atlanta Braves, Boston is 53-47 and just two games away from an American League wildcard berth.

If the Red Sox can continue their winning streak in the upcoming series against Atlanta and San Francisco, Boston will further establish itself as a buyer at the close next week.

SAN FRANCISCO — Tanya Tilghman moved to the Bay Area as a teenager to live with her mother. She later married, had two sons, and made a home in San Francisco’s historic Italian neighborhood of North Beach, above the tourist and financial centers.

Even when her marriage fell apart, she never considered leaving. This was her city, her people. Liberal like her, with a mix of income levels and an overall sense of community. She wasn’t worried about her growing boys taking to the streets, where she herself always felt safe.

But those streets have changed, she says. She believes actions by city hall and even groups helping the homeless have exacerbated some of the problems and the community she once felt a part of has disappeared, she says. And her son got caught up in a scene that’s hard to ignore in the city: the drug scene.

Tilghman said Roman Vardanega first tried illegal drugs early in high school when he took a prescription drug at a friend’s house.

He quickly became addicted, his mother said, and then switched to cocaine, heroin, and later fentanyl, all of which were available in the city’s seedy Tenderloin area.

Tilghman admits she was uninformed, even naïve, about the proliferation of hard drugs. But it wasn’t something she encountered every day. Then “I think it’s a lot worse now than it was when I was growing up here,” she said. “When I was a teenager we always came to the Tenderloin because we thought it was just fun and quirky and I never felt insecure as a teenager. But I also don’t remember people coming up to me and asking if I wanted to buy drugs.

One of her first clues that her son was deeply involved was when she accompanied him on a tour of City Hall while he was at school. It was a few blocks from the Tenderloin, and some of the homeless people on the street knew him by name, like he’d been out there hanging out with them a lot — and that’s exactly what he did by collecting his drugs.

She tried to help. Vardanega spent 11th grade in rehab but persuaded his mother to let him return. She welcomed him home, but so did the streets.

By this time, their neighborhood had changed, and drugs seemed freely available even when they rode the Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART) system home.

“The first thing I got asked when I walked out of the BART station was if I wanted to buy drugs,” Tilghman said. The ease of getting and using drugs made the city a dangerous and sometimes deadly playground for people like her son.

When the Covid-19 pandemic hit in 2020, Vardanega began living on the streets full-time. The city was shut down, residents left or stayed indoors, and at the height of the pandemic, more people died from drug overdoses than from Covid-19.

“Everyone in town started putting up tents,” Tilghman said. “The outdoor drug market got a lot worse. And so it became easier for him to buy drugs and use them outdoors.”

And what Tilghman found puzzling was that the city just seemed to be looking the other way.

“The city’s policies absolutely harmed my son, it harmed us, and it caused him, I would say, to fall into his addiction a lot more,” she said.

“If you get caught for drugs, you most likely won’t go to jail, the cops would just let you go,” she said. “That made things worse, especially for my son because he’s very young and he’s still in that party mood.”

Tilghman’s state of mind was focused on one goal: finding her son. She knew he was addicted. She knew she loved him so much it hurt. And she knew that she wouldn’t stop looking until she found him, even if it put her in danger.

She walked the streets looking at things that most people tried to avoid and looked straight into the eyes of the people who lived on the streets. Sometimes she got blank looks back. Sometimes a sympathetic ear or a hopeful hint as to where her son might be.

She didn’t find him, but so many people were like him. “What makes me sad is seeing my son’s face on everyone’s faces … out on the street,” Tilghman said.

When Covid broke out, many residents started disappearing and the tent cities exploded on the sidewalks along with the drugs, the addictions and the signs of mental illness.

Mayor London Breed declared a state of emergency in the city to set up a “liaison center” at the Tenderloin, touted as a place for addicts to seek services that can help them.

When it opened in January 2022, Tilghman hoped it might be a place her son would find himself in, and one day she went to have a look. When she got there, she heard blaring music and tried to peek inside.

“I saw people doing drugs. I could not believe it. I think this is a place where people should get help. And they actually do drugs?” Tilghman said.

A little later she pretended to be an addict and went to the center to take a closer look.

“I told them I wanted to quit drugs and that I needed help,” she said. “And they laughed at me. And the guy at the door said, ‘We can help you use drugs. But if you need help with drug recovery, you have to come back tomorrow,'” Tilghman said.

The center had an area intended to treat overdoses, but it became known as a place for taking drugs and not for other services.

“The most disturbing thing… was that the damage reduction area was more like a party scene,” Tilghman said. “If my son went there for services because he’s a drug addict, if he saw a party scene where people were dancing and singing and taking drugs and most likely selling drugs there, there just wouldn’t be an option for him to access it.” Because he was so distracted and excited that he went and used it.”

In her opinion, the city’s laissez-faire philosophy had simply gone too far.

“If you walk into a store and steal less than $1,000 worth of merchandise and get away with it, that’s going way too far,” she said. “It’s going too far when you could smoke crack in front of a cop and the cop just looks at you and doesn’t even arrest you.”

The struggle to save her son was wearing her down. Not once, but three times, Tilghman says she was so depressed and so hopeless that she attempted suicide.

The situation is beginning to change, both for Tilghman personally and perhaps for her town.

The Tenderloin Linkage Center, later renamed the Tenderloin Center, closed last December. Tilghman has found new support and a mission working with Mothers Against Drug Addiction and Deaths. A new district attorney took office after the previous one was removed by constituents who perceived him as soft-spoken about crime. Tilghman’s son Vardanega got into trouble with the law, served a prison sentence and was sent to a court-ordered rehab program.

For Tilghman, incarceration is a good thing for him — it keeps him alive, off the streets, and gives him a chance in a treatment program.

For them, San Francisco is still beautiful – with the Golden Gate Bridge, the Presidio and Fisherman’s Wharf, the Italian enclave of North Beach. But it’s gotten even scarier, and she thinks part of the blame lies with the politicians whose job it is to clean up the streets.

“I’m liberal,” Tilghman said. “My politics have stayed the same and things have gone crazy around me.”

Albert Pujols is open to switching to coaching. Ultimately. Just not yet.

The retired hitter arrived at St. Louis Cardinals spring training camp Thursday to visit former teammates, and while he believes he will take on coaching or another role in Major League Baseball, he doesn’t want to give a timeline.

“Listen, 23 years and 24 years, it’s difficult to follow a February-October schedule,” said Pujols, who retired in October after 22 years split primarily between the Cardinals and the Los Angeles Angels went. “Now I have the freedom to have my own schedule. I am grateful for that.”

Pujols spent a week as a special assistant with the Angels in Arizona shortly after camp opened, but the dalliance was just that. He’s embracing retirement after a career that ended in 703 homers, fourth on the career list.

The almost certain future Hall of Famer probably wouldn’t have to bother trying too hard for work when the time comes. He’s in no hurry though. There is too much golf to be able to visit many members of his family. He even made an appearance in the NBA Celebrity Game last month as part of the league’s All-Star Weekend.

Pujols stressed that he would not “put a stamp” on when the time was right to return to the game in a larger capacity.

“If it happens next year, it’s great,” he said. “Knowing myself I think I’ll let that moment come and I’ll revisit it if it’s something I think works, I definitely will.”

HARPER HOPEFUL

Phildelphia Phillies star Bryce Harper thinks he could be ready once the All-Star break begins as he recovers from off-season Tommy John surgery.

The two-time National League MVP said Thursday the team has committed mid-July as a potential target date for Harper’s return.

Harper spent most of last season as Philadelphia’s designated hitter after initially injuring his right elbow in April. He underwent surgery in November shortly after helping the Phillies to the World Series for the first time since 2009.

Harper, 30, intends to serve as the designated hitter whenever he’s back in the lineup. Returning to right field can take significantly longer.

“Obviously I want to play outfield,” Harper said. “I want to get back out there and be in the right field in front of the fans, do my stuff and hear it from all the teams (fans) in the league too.”

RETURN FOR ROUND

The New York Yankees will have to wait a little longer to see their investment in Carlos Rodón pay off.

General manager Brian Cashman said the veteran left-handed pitcher will start the season on the injury list due to a left forearm strain. Rodón will not throw for 7-10 days, killing any chance that he will be ready on opening day.

The Yankees signed Rodón to a six-year, $162 million deal during the offseason after Rodón put together back-to-back All-Star seasons, first with the Chicago White Sox in 2021 and then with the San Francisco Giants this past summer.

GREENE GETS OPENING DAY FOR RED

Hunter Greene will be the opening day of the Cincinnati Reds.

The 23-year-old gets the nod as he begins his second season with the majors.

“It means the world. Given the history in Cincinnati, it’s a great honor,” said Greene, who went 5-13 in 24 starts in his rookie season. “It’s a great honor with the talent we have, Nick, Graham, Cessa (Luis). Knowing the history and the potential, we need to bring the team back (after 100 losses). It’s a baseball town. We want to win as much as the fans to bring that atmosphere back to the city.”

Greene threw 7 1/3 no-hit innings against Pittsburgh and lost in May, and he led the National League in legal homers before missing 43 games with a right shoulder strain.

WACHA, HADER PREPARATION FOR PADRES

San Diego starter Michael Wacha pitched three innings against Cleveland and gave up two unearned runs. Wacha, who signed with San Diego just last month, wasn’t concerned that he needed time to get up to speed.

“This is my 10th spring workout, I kinda figured it out,” Wacha said after his outing. “Obviously there have been some tweaks here and there over the years, but even (before I signed) I continued with that.”

He gave up three hits and knocked out two, and the runs were undeserved.

Wacha, 31, was 11-2 with a 3.32 ERA in 23 starts for Boston last season.

Helper Josh Hader followed Wacha to the hill. The hard-throwing left-hander begins his first full season in San Diego after being acquired from Milwaukee.

Hader threw multiple sliders on his second outing, giving up two hits and a walk but no runs. He threw a wild throw and knocked one out.

“One of my goals was to get a lot of reps with this slider,” Hader said.

He said he threw more fastballs on his first outing, so this time he emphasized his slider. “Try to get them on strikes and look at the reactions from the thugs and see if I want to work on that more.

“Overall there was more good than bad.”

HILL IMPRESSIVE LIKE 43 WEBSTUBS

There appears to be plenty of life left in Rich Hill’s left arm on the eve of his 43rd birthday.

The 17-year veteran allowed Pittsburgh a run and two hits in a 10-7 loss to Detroit on Thursday. Hill, who turns 43 on Saturday, mixed speeds and arm angles to throw the Tigers off balance.

Hill’s fastball reached a top speed of 89 mph. His series of breaking balls dipped to 68 mph. In the second, he caught Detroit’s Justyn-Henry Malloy on three pitches and then fanned out Kerry Carpenter on a slider that clocked just 68.8 mph on the radar gun.

The Pirates signed Hill for $8 million. One-year deal with hopes he’ll provide for a side riddled with young players, particularly in the starting rotation, both on the mound and in the clubhouse.

SOTO ON THE RETURN

Phillies reliever Gregory Soto threw 24 pitches over an inning during a simulated game the day after he reported for spring practice. Soto’s arrival from the Dominican Republic was delayed due to visa issues.

The two-time All-Star was acquired from the Detroit Tigers in a five-player deal in January.

“I knew I was coming to a new team and I wanted to familiarize myself with the new staff and new teammates,” Soto said through an interpreter. “So the longer I was in the DR, the less time I had here.”

Soto has been able to train at the Phillies Academy in the Dominican Republic, which is about an hour from his home.

The visa delay prevented Soto from playing this month’s World Baseball Classic.

“Right now it hurts a bit,” Soto said. “But I know that’s my priority.”

BOONE GOES YARD

Aaron Boone still got it.

The New York Yankees skipper celebrated his 50th birthday by doing some batting practice, a round that included a shot over the left field fence at George M. Steinbrenner Field.

Few people have a better pulse in the NFL or a stronger attitude toward the state of the league than ESPN’s Ryan Clark.

Clark played 13 seasons in safety in the NFL and has stayed in league circles since retiring as an analyst for ESPN, appearing on shows such as NFL Live, First Take and SportsCenter. But Clark’s new appearance against the Tennessee Titans running back Derrick Henry didn’t come from a television appearance.

While stopping by on 104.5 The Zone on Friday morning at Ramon, Kayla and Will, Clark explained to Will Boling and Ramon Foster why he thinks the Titans are in a difficult position with Derrick Henry when it comes to running back and why himself removed the NFL from appreciating the type of player that Henry is.

Clark believed the Titans should get Henry back on the roster for 2023 but believes Henry’s return must come with an understanding that he cannot bring you a championship alone and that his style of play could soon be old-fashioned.

“Does its productivity create championships and lead to victories?”, said Clark. “If you’re looking from the outside at the San Francisco 49ers, who had a ridiculous record when they took over Christian McCaffery, don’t you want that guy? If you look at what Tony Pollard can do for a crime, don’t you want this guy?

“Don’t get me wrong, I think Derrick Henry has been so successful because he’s different in some ways, but how many times have the Tennessee Titans gone down in a game or how many times have you finished third and now you don’t need Derrick Henry ?”, Clark continued.

Clark continued that, much like McCaffrey and Pollard, the running backs continue to give teams the passing flexibility they desire. The league is a passing league, and running backs who are dynamic, bring value to the pass and also bring 1,200 rushing yards are the next generation of talent in the NFL. The tough downhill runners can stay behind.

It’s a hard pill to swallow, but ultimately he’s right.

Henry is still a generational talent. He’s one of the best running backs the world has ever seen. There has never been another player like him and there probably never will be again. But the current playstyle that the Titans’ offense is adopting is not a winning style. The most successful running games in today’s league have more than one running back committed. Your running backs expand the field with the outside zone, line up in the slot, and are prolific as both pass catchers and pass blockers.

Today Henry is still the best downhill power runner in the NFL, but unless he’s complemented by an exceptional pass blocker with lateral agility, Tennessee’s offense can be boxed fairly easily.

The Titans will have to reflect on some of the same questions Clark asked this offseason as GM Ran Carthon, who has seen success in San Francisco firsthand, tries to navigate a challenging offseason full of decisions.

One of the biggest surprises of the offseason is that Jimmy Garoppolo is still a member of the San Francisco 49ers. Garoppolo was anticipated to be traded this offseason but hasn’t seen a trade materialize. This situation muddies the 49ers’ quarterback room, as Trey Lance is still waiting in the wings.

ESPN insider Jeremy Fowler released an update about Jimmy Garoppolo on Sunday. In his latest update, Fowler revealed why Garoppolo remains on the roster. He said:

“The market hasn’t been overly hot right now, largely because of Garoppolo’s shoulder surgery. Teams don’t know when he’ll be able to throw; it might be later in the summer. And so, can he pass a physical? “There are questions that teams are sort of asking right now. We mentioned the Panthers earlier in relation to (Baker Mayfield); they’ve done their homework on Garoppolo too. They’ve looked at all options, and Garoppolo is one. So that’s.” Something to watch down the road. Right now, San Fransisco is prepared to hold on to that $26 million salary, at least as a placeholder for now. They believe they can do all of their business with draft picks and free agents until they sort all of this out.” “I really do think that Jimmy [Garoppolo] would have a starting job right now, if it hadn’t been for the shoulder surgery.” – @AlbertBreer said on the @RichEisenShow.

Albert shared how the shoulder injury complicates things & made teams concerned he’ll miss key off-season time.

“I really do think that Jimmy [Garoppolo] would have a starting job right now, if it hadn’t been for the shoulder surgery.” – @AlbertBreer said on the @RichEisenShow.Albert shared how the shoulder injury complicates things & made teams concerned he’ll miss key off-season time. https://t.co/9YTPC42gqe

Garoppolo’s shoulder surgery couldn’t have been timed worse. Despite reports that he’ll be ready to throw in training camp, teams are skeptical he’ll recover in time to be worth trading significant assets for.

Another juicy piece of information dropped from Fowler was regarding the starting job. Fowler reports that Lance will be the Week 1 starter. fowler wrote:

“Meanwhile, Trey Lance has been working out in the Bay Area. I’m told that he’s got indications, at least informal indications from the team, that he’ll be the guy next year. He’s set to be that. Now, whether that means that they would still keep Garoppolo and that could change the dynamic, possibly. But right now, Lance is going to be the starter.” Here’s the entire quote from ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler about #49ers QB’s Jimmy Garoppolo and Trey Lance<svg%20xmlns=%22http://www.w3.org/2000/svg%22%20viewBox=%220%200%2018%2018%22>“/>Here’s the entire quote from ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler about #49ers QB’s Jimmy Garoppolo and Trey Lance https://t.co/Io8HONOzlw

Trey Lance as starting quarterback for San Francisco 49ers over Jimmy Garoppolo is significant news

Fowler reporting that Jimmy Garoppolo would be the second-string quarterback behind Lance is significant. But if Lance is starting over Garoppolo, why keep Garoppolo as a backup if you have to pay him $26 million in cap space?

The San Francisco 49ers have looming contract extensions due to Nick Bosa and Deebo Samuel. Bosa and Samuel are two of the best players in the league at their positions and are each likely to command over $20 million per year.

Moving on from Jimmy Garoppolo gives the 49ers financial flexibility to extend one of them. Understandably, they want compensation for Garoppolo, but eventually, you have to cut your losses. Especially if a player like Samuel is willing to hold out or request a trade due to the lack of a new contract.

San Francisco (KGO) – Coronavirus cases across the country tripled to over 35,000 a day in the past month. More health authorities have to rethink mask requirements until more people are vaccinated.

California currently has the 17th highest COVID-19 case rate in the country. COVID act now ..

Context: The CA’s schedule for achieving herd immunity was “postponed beyond autumn” due to the delta variant, doctors say.

Two weeks after the state reopened in June, the Bay Area’s moving average rose. As a result, many California counties recommend or require that you wear a mask indoors, even if you are fully vaccinated.

“I think it could be a little confusing,” said Cambria Garrel, who lives in Los Angeles.

And she’s not the only one who feels that way. Two months ago, the CDC said that vaccinated people can take their masks off in most situations.

One woman who works in the Bay Area said, “I think it’s kind of an uproar and contradiction. I just keep going with myself because I am obliged to do so in my workplace. “

Video: Doctors explain the potential for infection with the coronavirus after vaccination

“I’m careful and use masks anyway, but the layout is a bit confusing,” says James Wheeler, who lives in San Francisco.

“It feels confusing because it’s confusing. The rules change as we talk, ”agreed Dr. Bob Wachter, chairman of the UCSF School of Medicine, too.

Dr. Wachter thinks it makes sense to wear a mask indoors for four main reasons:

1. Delta variants are twice as contagious.

“It makes it much more dangerous to do the exact same activity as you did a month ago.”

2. Lots of unmasked people mean there are lots of viruses in the air.

“When you go to a supermarket and you have someone who isn’t wearing a mask, you don’t know if you’ve been vaccinated or not.”

3. There are more breakthrough infections. Vaccinated people are very unlikely to be hospitalized, but the likelihood of long-haul truck symptoms is unknown.

“I don’t know if there will be a persistent headache or a brain fog.”

4. Stop sending

“I don’t want to infect it and then accidentally transfer it to the children I’ve met who are receiving cancer chemotherapy or who haven’t been vaccinated.”

Dr. Wachter believes it is safe to take off the mask indoors in a small group known to be fully vaccinated.

“I think that’s reasonable. It’s not a zero risk, but it’s a very low risk, ”he said.

OAKLAND (BCN / KPIX) – Mayor Libby Schaaf reiterated her commitment to keeping the A’s in Oakland on Wednesday morning, saying she hopes the city and team can get a deal on the Howard Terminal stadium plan.

Three major differences now separate Oakland from Oakland A’s April proposal for a new baseball stadium at the Howard Terminal, Schaaf said at the morning press event near the planned stadium location.

CONTINUE READING: Newsom signs law aimed at combating organized retail theft

Both sides need to come together to create affordable housing, a social fund and the structure of the financial deal.

Schaaf made her statements after a critical vote in the city council on Tuesday afternoon that the A’s and Major League Baseball now have to think about, A-President Dave Kaval said on Tuesday afternoon.

The council approved a non-binding overall budget, but the A’s still disagree and hadn’t seen any part of it before city officials presented it during the meeting on Tuesday.

Kaval said the league will look into the new terms immediately.

“We are ready to continue playing,” said Schaaf on Wednesday morning. “We’re on the ball.”

Oakland wants the A’s to commit to 35 percent affordable housing as part of the project. Fifteen percent or about 450 of the 3,000 units to be built at the Howard Terminal on Market Street in Oakland would be on the project site.

“With this deal, we have to have affordable housing,” said Schaaf.

She also said the city has reason to believe the A’s will agree to this request.

Oakland also wants just one infrastructure finance district, while A’s proposal has two. One would be on site and the other outside. The city’s proposal only provides for the district.

The third point of contention is a community benefit fund that would provide services such as legal assistance, tenant rights advice, and investing in land trusts.

Schaaf said A’s proposal for the community fund was based on a source of funding that could only be spent on capital.

CONTINUE READING: The couple is suing eBay for harassment by ex-employees

“This community will hold fast to the community services,” said Schaaf.

An earlier point of contention was the non-relocation agreement, but the A’s and the city have agreed on 25 years. That would start when the first home game is played.

The baseball stadium project consists primarily of a new 35,000-seat stadium, 3,000 new residential units, a new hotel with approximately 400 rooms, 1.77 million square feet of commercial space, a venue with approximately 3,500 seats and approximately 18 acres of parkland.

The stadium is expected to cost about $ 1 billion to build and the entire complex is expected to cost about $ 12 billion.

Schaaf said the city provided essentials that the A’s asked for in order to continue the process.

On Tuesday, the A’s said they want a binding agreement on a new Oakland baseball stadium by the end of this year’s baseball season.

Kaval was optimistic about getting six votes from the city council for a waterfront stadium in the city.

But the team is still looking for a venue in other cities.

“We have to have options,” said Kaval.

On Wednesday, Kaval and other team leaders were in Vegas to continue discussions about a possible move should the stadium deal fail.

“I respect that they are trying to keep the heat going. And what’s better than Vegas for the heat! ” said Schaff. “I’ve worked for Dave Kavel for a long time and have great respect for him as a skilled negotiator.”

Kaval said the A’s are running out of time for a new place to play and the only location in Oakland that is suitable for the A’s and Major League Baseball is at the Howard Terminal.

SAN FRANCISCO – An irritable Nancy Pelosi said Wednesday she was taking responsibility for trusting the word of a hair salon in San Francisco that it was okay to come for a one-on-one visit – even though the city still doesn’t have an indoor pool due to the coronavirus Beauty services allows pandemic.

But the Democratic House spokeswoman called the Monday visit a “facility” and said the salon owed her an apology for misrepresenting the city’s health care contracts.

“I take the responsibility for taking the word of a neighborhood salon I’ve been to many times over the years and that when they said … we are able to accommodate people one by one and that we can pinpoint Until then, I trusted it, “Pelosi told reporters on Wednesday. “It turned out to be a setup.”

“I take responsibility for falling in love with a setup,” she said.

An attorney for the man who did her hair also said Pelosi was apparently set up.

Matthew Soleimanpour said his client had received permission from the salon owner the day before to make the appointment.

During that phone call, the owner, Erica Kious, “made several critical and very timely comments on Speaker Pelosi,” Soleimanpour said in a statement.

“It appears that Ms. Kious is promoting a Spokesman Pelosi facility for her own futile endeavors,” the statement said.

WATCH: Will Pelosi’s salon visit influence the choice? Political insider weighs

Pelosi faces severe setbacks after Fox News Channel broadcast surveillance videos from the salon showing her walking around the salon with wet hair and a mask around her neck rather than on her face. In the clip, a masked stylist follows her.

Critics, including President Donald Trump, called her a hypocrite and asked why she wasn’t aware of the coronavirus rules in her hometown.

Kious, owner of ESalon SF in upscale Cow Hollow, told Fox News that she is renting chairs to stylists, and one of them told her in advance that Pelosi wanted to wash and blow dry herself. California salon guidelines vary by state, but strict San Francisco officials have not yet allowed indoor salons to open.

Kious said she viewed Pelosi as a “slap in the face” for struggling business owners.

However, in his statement, Soleimanpour said that photos and other information show that Kious had performed maskless indoor services for at least April and that she had also encouraged “and almost forced stylists” to work.

Kious did not respond to repeated requests for comment from The Associated Press.

Violations of the health order can result in a fine, imprisonment, or both. But San Francisco has stressed enforcement education and has been reluctant to punish businesses and individuals.

Pelosi said Wednesday she would not answer any more questions about the visit and at one point asked if reporters had any questions “about the fact that people are dying,” referring to the HEROES Act legislation they are on Called press conference.

A reporter asked why she wasn’t wearing a mask in the short clip.

“I just got my hair washed. I don’t wear a mask when I wash my hair. Do you wear a mask when you wash your hair? I always have a mask,” said Pelosi.
