1. Pour half a cup of salt down the drain, followed by boiling water. Continue rinsing with very hot tap water until the blockage clears.

2. Pour a cup of yogurt down the drain and let it sit for a few hours.

3. For a lock of hair, pour a liquid body hair remover such as Nair down the drain. Let it sit for about half an hour, then drain hot water down the drain. Not only does it dissolve hair and dirt in the pipes under the sink, but it also continues to work along the line as it moves through the pipes.

4. For grease clogging, pour dish soap such as Dawn down the drain followed by hot water.

5. For slow-running drains, shake half a box of baking soda down the drain and add to a cup of vinegar. It should bubble and foam. When it stops foaming, flush the drain with very hot water for two to three minutes.

6. Use a plunger. Although most people use the plunger on toilets, they can be used to plug other types of household drains. If you are using a plunger, try using a lot of force to push the plunger handle over the obstruction to drain. Wait a minute and then see if the clog is cleared. Repeat the drain cleaning process as necessary.
