Riley Gaines, a former college swimmer, said she was assaulted during a performance at San Francisco State University, where she spoke out against allowing transgender women to compete on women’s teams, CNN reported.

“I was physically attacked by a person. I was hit twice, both times hitting my shoulder with the second hit grazing my face,” Gaines said. “The rest of the protesters just ambushed me and cornered me before I could move out with the help of campus police.”

A video shows her walking after the speech, followed by protesting students shouting, “Trans rights are human rights.”

“We are conducting an ongoing investigation into the situation. There were no arrests related to the event,” university police said in a statement. “The disruption occurred after the conclusion of the event that necessitated it [police] Officers to move the event speaker from the room to another safe location.”

PEN America, a literature and free speech advocacy group, called the incident a “disaster.”

“Physical intimidation or violence is never an acceptable response to speech, no matter how hateful or controversial the speech is,” said Kristen Shahverdian, PEN America’s senior manager for freedom of speech and education.

Local cannabis entrepreneur and former San Francisco Fire Department Commissioner Don Carmignani was hospitalized after he was beaten by two men after an altercation outside his mother’s Marina home on Wednesday night.

“My son Don was beaten with a steel pipe by two men on Laguna Street and Lombard Street last night,” reads a Nextdoor post by Carmignani’s mother, Joan, thanked the neighbors who got involved, ended the fight and called 911. “If they weren’t there, my son would be dead!”

“He’s in the hospital with a fractured skull, a broken jaw and lots of lacerations,” added Carmignani’s mother.

The San Francisco Police Department confirmed that at 5:20 p.m. a man was attacked with a metal object in Laguna, near Magnolia Street, and was taken to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. A suspect has been arrested.

“Right now, one of my dear friends is in the hospital after being attacked by a homeless man with a metal pipe in the marina last night,” San Francisco supervisor Catherine Stefani, whose District 2 covers the marina, said at a city meeting Thursday.

Stefani explained that Don Carmignani’s mother called the police because homeless people were taking drugs outside her door and wouldn’t leave. When the police didn’t respond, her son came to speak to the men outside her door and was attacked.

“We’re short of 55 officers at North Station. It’s a real thing,” said Stefani, who said Carmignani’s sister-in-law is her daughter’s teacher. “It’s not scaremongering… I’ve been here for 21 years and it hasn’t happened before. I think it’s a direct result of not having enough officers on our street.”

Ali Jamalian, a friend of Carmignani and head of Sunset Connect dispensary and the city’s cannabis regulatory committee, said: “There were two guys smoking meth or crack outside his mother’s house like they were blocking the entrance and she is late seventies. ”

He said the same men had been hanging out there for a while. “And I think the Bulls wouldn’t come out, despite some complaints from others. When he went out and asked them to move away, they attacked him.”

“He’s a very well-known local cannabis entrepreneur,” Jamalian said. “He’s always been a pro-cannabis landlord and a fighter for the cause. And he’s a local boy – Sacred Heart, third generation, a wonderful man.”

Mayor Ed Lee appointed Carmignani to the Fire Department Commission in 2013, but resigned after just four months following an arrest for domestic violence crimes. According to a 2016 SF Weekly report, he pleaded guilty to one misdemeanor charge and was sentenced to a fine, probation and counseling.

He then received several cannabis licenses from the city and became an early key player in the city’s business when California relaxed regulations on the drug.

A disturbing TikTok video has gone viral, showing the moment a transgender woman was verbally assaulted at a San Francisco restaurant.

Content creator Lilly Contino was eating with her dog at the Cheesecake Factory in Union Square in San Francisco while live-streaming a conversation with her followers when an unidentified woman began harassing her.

In the footage, the woman can be heard proudly referring to Ms. Contino as TERF — an acronym for trans exclusionary radical feminist, meaning a person who sees themselves as a feminist but is transphobic.

“You know I’m a TERF, right? Trans-eccentric radical feminist,” the woman can be heard saying off-screen.

When Ms. Contino asks if she’s a TERF, the woman doubles down and says, “I’m a TERF.”

She then asks Ms. Contino if she would like her to move away, to which Ms. Contino replies, “No, actually, you should tell me you’re a TERF.”

At this point, the woman mistakes Ms. Contino and says, “You’re a boy, right?”

She then begins to threaten Ms. Contino with physical violence.

“Don’t fuck with me, because honestly I hit it. I hit it hard,” she says.

The incident continues with the woman telling Ms. Contino not to “judge” her for being a TERF, telling her, “I get to be whoever I want to be and you get to be whoever you want to be.” “.

@lillytino_

A self-proclaimed TERF (trans-exclusionary radical feminist) threatened me at the @cheesecake factory. I happened to be streaming at the time and captured the encounter on camera. This happened at the Union Square location in San Francisco

♬ Original sound – lillytino

She then tells Ms. Contino to “take your stupid dog, eat your damn food, and get the shit out of my life,” before saying she needs to “call you a white supremacist.”

Ms. Contino then asks to speak to the restaurant’s manager, who apologizes off-camera for the incident.

Ms. Contino shared a clip of the encounter on her TikTok platform, which has garnered 9.7 million views as of Monday morning.

The story goes on

Ms Contino explained to KPIX that the harassment first started when the woman started telling jokes and then offered to show her a surgical scar on her stomach.

When she politely declined, the woman replied, “I’ll show you if I want, son.”

“And of course, as a trans person, I’m more sensitive to gender language,” Ms. Contino said.

She said that as the incident progressed she became even more shocked and said that nothing like this had ever happened to her before.

TikTok video shows transgender woman being molested at Cheesecake Factory (TikTok/@lillytino)

She was particularly shocked, she said, since she’d moved from Georgia to the liberal city of San Francisco.

“I was just stunned. I have never been physically threatened in public. I’ve never been verbally abused in public,” she said.

“Part of it was just shock and disbelief that this was happening. I live in San Francisco for a reason. I live here because it’s a liberal city, one of the most queer-friendly cities in the world.

“That it happens in such a public place and nobody helps.”

Posted by Rachel Trent | CNN

A 75-year-old Asian woman who was attacked on the street is taking the nearly $ 1 million donated for her medical bills and using it to fight racism, her family says.

After Xiao Zhen Xie was slapped in the face in an unprovoked attack in San Francisco on March 17th, she hit herself back. “He harasses old people,” Xie said in a video that was filmed after the attack by CNN subsidiary KPIX. “So I struck.”

After the attack, Xie suffered from two black eyes, a swollen wrist, and post-traumatic stress disorder that made her too scared to leave her home, according to a GoFundMe page her family set up to raise money for medical bills .

GoFundMe raised more than $ 930,000 within a week of the attack. The original target was $ 50,000.

Now her family says Xie wants the money to go to the Asian American community to fight racism and say the problem is bigger than her, according to the online fundraiser.

The site also says that Xie’s mental and physical health has improved. Now she can open her injured eye and is “in a better mood”.

Anti-Asian attacks are increasing

San Francisco police said a 39-year-old man assaulted an 83-year-old Asian man and was followed by a security guard when he beat Xie.

The suspect was taken to the San Francisco County Jail and was due to appear in court later this month.

After the attack, police said investigators are “working to determine whether bias is a motivating factor”.

San Francisco Police have stepped up patrols in predominantly Asian neighborhoods after “an alarming spike in brazen anti-Asian violence in recent weeks” in the Bay Area, the ministry said.

Anti-Asian attacks have increased dramatically in the United States during the Covid-19 pandemic. Stop AAPI Hate group says it received more than 500 reports of anti-Asian hate incidents in the first two months of 2021.
