SAN FRANCISCO — (AP) — San Francisco right-hander Alex Cobb carried a no-hit bid through eight against the Cincinnati Reds on Tuesday night with the help of a scoring change and a sliding eighth-inning catch by Austin Slater upheld in a video review.

Nick Senzel was credited with a single in the third inning on a two-hopper that third baseman Casey Schmitt snagged with a backhand grab. The rookie’s throw from foul territory was high and pulled a leaping J.D. Davis off the first-base bag.

Official scorer Chris Thoms originally called the play a hit, then changed it to an error.

With two outs in the eighth, Will Benson hit a pop to short center. Slater sprinted in, leaped forward and caught the ball backhanded while prone. Cobb raised both arms in celebration.

After a period of suspense, crew chief Bill Miller announced “The call on the field stands,” and the crowd roared.

Senzel was the only runner to reach through eight innings off Cobb, who struck out seven and threw 113 pitches. The Giants led 5-0.

When I wrote the game thread for today’s contest between the San Francisco Giants and the Milwaukee Brewers, I was optimistic. It was hard not to.

First, I looked at Alex Cobb’s stats. He’s having a wonderful season – one that should deserve All-Star consideration if he continues like this. And he’s been particularly brilliant in his last two appearances, knocking out the St. Louis Cardinals in an entire game and then looking like he’d serve up the San Diego Padres in a normal park in Mexico City’s ridiculous elevation.

And he faced a Brewers lineup that was… look, the Brewers are a good team. There’s no way around it. But it’s not because of her insult. When I wrote the game thread, I entered the OPS+ number for each player in each grid.

For those new to OPS+, it measures offensive performance and places it on a scale where 100 is the league average. 110 is 110% as good as the league average, 90 is 90% as good as the league average, and so on and so on.

Six of the Brewers starters had an OPS+ under 100. Five of them had an OPS+ under 90. In addition, five of them were right-handed.

On paper, it was a matchup that Cobb should have dominated. But baseball never really goes together like that, so I kept my thoughts to myself.

Unless it worked out that way. It worked exactly like that.

Cobb started the game in cruise control and stayed there through the fourth inning when he hit a pretty funny obstacle in the middle of the road.

After making a second throw to first base, one of the umpires forgot how to count and claimed a violation on the third throw. Cobb and Gabe Kapler protested, the umpires met and ruled that it was only the second throw and it was longer an infraction.

Short message: I have no idea if it was the second or third step. The people covering the Giants seemed to be a different number than the people covering the Brewers. I’ll take the Giants angle. It’s funnier.

The Brewers didn’t like it, leading to the funniest moment of the season: Brewers manager Craig Counsell and bench coach Pat Murphy both in full-blown arguments with different umpires at once. It was adorable.

Counsell was quickly thrown down and delightfully enjoyed himself.

Cobb stood on the hill the whole time, his arm getting cold, his body tense. You were wondering how he would react to an unexpected delay of about five minutes.

Not good, at least initially. He finished the plate appearance with a walk and put down two runners with no outs. It was danger time. And after scoring two outs, he allowed a single one to load the bases and the Brewers were one shot away from changing the game entirely. We’ve seen that so many times this year with the Giants. That usually doesn’t go so well.

It went well this time. Cobb worked a ground ball that JD Davis tucked away beautifully — as he has consistently done this season — and his clean pitching line stayed.

And when the road was cleared, Cobb was able to find his cruise control button again and glide through the fifth, sixth and seventh innings unscathed and virtually untouched. It was another masterful performance and we expected it, which makes it no less.

Along the way, the Giants gave him the support he needed. They batted first in a two-out rally in the second inning when Michael Conforto pulled off a brilliant walk and drained his gas tank to score on a double by Joey Bart.

The next few runs came an inning later and a little smoother as Thairo Estrada — likely in line for the first All-Star appearance of his career — fell 0-2 down the count, only to recover and undoubtedly hit a two -Run run home.

It felt like enough, and it was. But why settle for enough when you can have great stories? So I bring you one of baseball’s greatest joys: the first career home run. This is courtesy of Brett Wisely, who also played an excellent game on second base.

If you don’t like that, then you don’t like baseball.

Speaking of liking baseball, it always bothers you a bit. That’s part of the fascination. After Taylor Rogers broke through the eighth and sent the Giants 4-0 into the ninth, John Brebbia came on.

Something was wrong with Brebbia. He threw balls in 10 of his first 12 fields and eventually the coaching staff came to check on him. He opted for a strikeout but then gave up an RBI single that put the tie on the plate.

Camilo Doval came in. With, again, the binding to the plate run.

That tie run was Tyrone Taylor sitting on a Doval sinker and hitting him at 101.1 mph and 357 feet. It found Cal Stevenson’s glove in midfield.

Then the crucial run Christian Yelich, sitting on a 1-1 slider and hitting him at 101.7 mph and 381 feet, was enough to leave Wrigley Field if the game had been there (which would have been very odd were). It also found Cal Stevenson’s glove in midfield.

Both bat hits stopped your heart. But neither slugger did anything other than put another on the board and give the Giants a 4-1 win.

It’s a four-game win streak. It’s the second win in a row against a very good team. And now they can set off.

Not a bad day at the office.

Happy birthday Willie Mays.

San Francisco Giants reliever Ross Stripling throws a pitch that Kansas City Royals’ Salvador Perez hits in the eighth inning for a 3-run home run, tying the game at 5 on Saturday, April 8, 2023 at Oracle Park in San Francisco : 5. California (Karl Mondon/Bay Area News Group)

MIAMI — If there was a bright spot in the Giants’ loss Tuesday night, it had to be the seven outs recorded by Ross Stripling. After three tough games early in the season, Stripling made his first clean game in a Giants uniform, and he’s only going to become more important over the next two weeks.

Barring “something unforeseen,” Stripling will take the rotational spot vacated by Alex Wood, who was put on the 15-day injured list after straining his left hamstring with a bunt in the third inning Tuesday night, manager Gabe said Kapler before the series finale on Wednesday against the Marlin.

Though Kapler gave up six homers and posted a 9.00 ERA in his first three appearances, he said he has “a lot of faith” in the 33-year-old right-hander, who along with Sean Manaea is one of two newcomers to the pitching team both signed at two-year free-agent contracts worth $25 million last winter.

“I’m very confident that we’re going to look back on the early-stage struggles that Ross had and it’s going to be just a small blip on the radar screen,” Kapler said. “I think the biggest key to Strip is counting leverage. It’s the first pitch strikes. It is the overall hit percentage. Both have been better in the last few games than at the start of the season.”

Stripling pulled back seven of the nine sluggers he faced and knocked out three while allowing a pair of hits but no runs. His sliders were down and gone, his changeups broke deep and in, and he populated the top of the hitting zone with his heaters. Stripling, known for his spot-on lead, put all his pitches where he wanted them for the first time this season.

“It’s my game,” Stripling said. “Obviously if I’m there I’ll have more success than if I’m not. If I can dial in my arsenal like that, it will do better than it has done so far.”

Stripling also dropped the alternate switch he had experimented with during spring training and his first two appearances this season. While using the field, which has more breaks than his primary changeup, to register strikeouts from Aaron Judge and Josh Donaldson, he missed the strike zone too often and fell behind on counts.

“It was just inconsistent,” Stripling said. “It’s inconsistent in my bullpens, it’s inconsistent in my catch game, and the only thing I’m not is inconsistent. So if it robs me of my only strength, which is throwing strikes, I can’t have it.”

The final straw was the home run he allowed Salvador Perez, who came up with a version of the switch that Stripling felt was well executed.

“Salvy hit the homer,” Stripling said, “and I was like, alright, I’m fine.”

So his arsenal ranges from six to five pitches. Or in other words, just the kitchen sink – not the plumbing as well.

While Stripling has plenty of experience between bullpen and rotation, which has essentially been his role at Toronto for the past three seasons, he signed with San Francisco in part because he was promised consistent starts. After a brief stint at the bullpen, he’s happy to return to the rotation and is confident he’ll stay there.

“That’s why you signed me and Sean,” Stripling said. “One of us can jump right in and keep the rotation going without feeling like we’re taking a step back in any way. … It made sense to lean on me early on in that role just because I’m comfortable with it and have done it before. But I always had the feeling that my arsenal was better suited as a starter.”

Beck Debuts: Between Stripling, Manaea, Jakob Junis and Sean Hjelle, the Giants were built to withstand the wear and tear of their initial pitching staff. This morning around 6:30 am further help for the red eye arrived. Stanford product Tristan Beck was recalled to take Wood’s spot on the list to complement her pitching depth.

Beck was first called up and received numerous hugs Wednesday morning at the Giants clubhouse and Tuesday night at the Triple-A Sacramento dugout. Scratched from his scheduled start and observing the situation in Miami, Beck had an idea of what River Cats manager Dave Brundage would tell him in the first inning of their game Tuesday night.

“It was kind of surreal,” said Beck, 26. “There was definitely that mid-sentence moment when I realized no one wanted to mess with me. He kinda got all the words out and I’m sitting there and it just hit me for a second. It was pretty cool man. It was pretty cool.”

Acquired from Atlanta in the Mark Melancon trade, Beck followed up a strong spring with a 3.38 ERA in his first three starts in Sacramento, where he is one of only a handful of pitchers with a sub-4.00 ERA and more strikeouts than walks was. (Other 40-man options, Cole Waites and RJ Dabovich, have combined to allow 16 runs in 8.0 innings with 17 walks to just six strikeouts.)

Considering Beck flew cross-country and the Giants will make the return trip after Wednesday’s game, they considered holding a train until they got back to San Francisco. But Kapler has relied on his own feelings as a player: “Players will always be excited, even if traveling in a major league uniform is a little uncomfortable. Somehow the adrenaline carries you through.”

And, Beck added, a cup of coffee.

Despite the late announcement and the overland trip, Beck has been able to bring his family to Miami if he makes his debut. His older sister Megan also boarded a red-eyed cross-country flight Tuesday night, while it was an easier trip for his younger brother Brendan, a pitching prospect in the Yankees system who is based in Tampa.

Long DFA: Left-hander Sam Long, who was last called up for action after a precipitous fall as a consistent contributor in 2021 and 2022 on Wednesday. Despite posting a 4.55 ERA in 40 games over the past two seasons, Long has struggled to miss racquets in spring training and continued his first four games at Triple-A.

Long, 27, was a 40-man casualty as the Giants made way for outfielder Cal Stevenson, whom they acquired from Oakland for cash.

While the Bay Area neighbors have had a few small trades in recent years, they still haven’t had a player-for-player since 1990, when Ernest Riles was traded from the Giants to the A’s in exchange for Darren Lewis and Pedro Peña. Player swap complete.

Stevenson, a Fremont native, batted .348/.483/.435 in seven games with A’s Triple-A partner. The 26-year-old Stevenson has batted .294 .409 .420 over more than four minor league seasons since he was drafted by Toronto in the 10th round in 2018. He was selected for Triple-A Sacramento.

San Francisco Giant and former Georgia pitcher Alex Wood didn’t make it to Indianapolis for the National Championship against Alabama.

But you better believe he was tuned in.

“My father was at the game. I didn’t make it, but I sat in my basement and watched it all by myself,” Wood said. “I worked my ass off the whole game but when it was over I didn’t say a word. I just couldn’t believe what had just happened. I’ve waited my whole life for this to happen.”

When Kelee Ringo picked up the pass and returned it for a touchdown to seal the Bulldogs’ 33-18 win, Wood was like countless Georgia fans at the time. He’s absolutely lost his mind.

“I screamed extremely loud. I jumped out of my seat, screamed, then sat down very quickly. I was just thinking about what that meant, literally, what just happened, how that had just sealed the deal that we could take home the national championship for the first time in my entire life,” Wood said. “I was just very impressed. I just couldn’t believe they finally did it. I couldn’t have been happier for our program.

“I’ve played for a lot of great teams, seen some great fan bases in college and pro sports, but it’s really just a special group when it comes to the Georgia Bulldogs and our fans. It really is a unique place and I just couldn’t have been happier for the team and everyone behind Georgia.”

Wood, a nine-year major league veteran, was in Athens Saturday night where he served as the guest speaker for Georgia baseball’s preseason banquet.

There he offered the current Bulldogs advice, keys to remember as they pursue their own careers, along with motivational tools that have helped him succeed.

Recently, Wood signed a two-year, $25 million contract to stay with the Giants after going 10-4 with a 3.83 ERA.

Under normal times, Wood would be preparing to head to Arizona for spring training with the rest of his teammates.

However, with the Major League Players Association and MLB currently in an impasse over a new deal, Wood has no idea when that might be.

“We’re like the fans to a certain extent. Of course we know each other a bit better, but it really is still a sit-and-wait game. Now I’m hoping it’s just a week or two delay and we can switch something out,” Wood said. “But yeah, it’s definitely been a bit frustrating from the union side, the player side, because we feel like we’re sitting around the table trying to get a fair, mutually beneficial deal.”

He keeps his fingers crossed that something will happen soon.

“It’s hard to negotiate with yourself. We’ve done that a little bit in the past and I don’t think we plan to do that now or in the future,” Wood said. “Right now we feel like we’ve sort of opened the door, but so far nobody’s ready to walk through it, so to speak. But we’ll see what happens. It’s business. People, everyone wants it to be a game, but it’s a billion dollar business. There are lots of loose ends to tie up. But I’m sure we’ll make it and the season will go its way.”

As you can imagine, Wood has a number of people to thank for helping get to this point in his career.

One is former Atlanta Brave pitcher Mike Minor, who Wood credits with showing him how to become a professional player.

Another is Rob Hill, the director of minor league pitching for the Dodgers, someone Wood refers to as the “Whiz Kid” and one of his best friends.

“I give him a lot of credit for my success over the past few years,” Wood said. “Otherwise it’s difficult to choose. I’ve had a lot of good team-mates, a lot of good coaches and a lot of good players, so you try to get something out of each individual and see people’s different perspectives.”

As for current and former teammates and coaches, there are obviously many. However, former three-time Cy Young Award winner Clayton Kershaw stands out.

Wood and Kershaw were teammates with the Dodgers for five years, five seasons the former Bulldog will never forget.

“It’s hard to find someone more focused than Clayton. Having kids gave him a little relief, but the guy lives to dominate,” Wood said. “No one in the world is happier than him when he made it and won. I will never erase the smile on his face, his work ethic, his determination. He’s definitely just a special person. I’m really lucky to have been his teammate and friend for so long.”

Although he has been away from Athens for some time, Wood said he will always consider Classic City his home.

Wood spoke fondly of his time as a Bulldog and how his development here, the opportunity to play in the SEC, helped shape him into the player he is today.

“I grew up a Dawg fan, so it’s not so much about baseball as it’s about how much I love Athens. There’s just no place like it, no fan base like it. I have fallen in love with Athens since I can remember growing up with my father. Throughout college were some of the best years of my life that I can remember,” Wood said. “I love this place like no other. After being able to play and develop here, develop into a callup-worthy player and later play professional baseball, I couldn’t have written it better myself.”

WASHINGTION (BCN) – After the U.S. Senate passed an infrastructure bill this week, California is poised to receive billions of federal dollars, Senator Alex Padilla said on Wednesday.

However, the $ 1 trillion bipartisan legislative package has yet to be approved by the House of Representatives before the money goes into the state.

CONTINUE READING: California High Court: Recreational Cannabis Act does not apply to inmates in prison

Padilla, who was attended by San Jose Mayor Sam Liccardo and San Diego Mayor Todd Gloria for a press conference Wednesday, said he was excited about what the funding could do.

“With the package that has already been approved, California will receive tens of billions of dollars to modernize its physical infrastructure, improve public transport and ensure safe drinking water,” said Padilla. “California knows all too well that these investments cannot come soon enough.”

For Californians, Padilla said the priorities are health care – as the COVID-19 delta variant spreads – economic recovery and climate change as the state faces another drought and forest fires.

Padilla specifically pointed out a new federal program aimed at electrifying the country’s school bus fleets in order to make the switch from diesel to zero-emission buses.

“This is great for the environment, great for public health, and great for academic achievement because healthy children learn better,” he said.

The Senator also highlighted grants cities can apply to weather critical infrastructure and be better prepared for drought and forest fires.

For San Jose and the Bay Area, Liccardo said these grants are critical.

“Of course, like so many others, we are aware that investments in the railways, in the water infrastructure, in the resilience of the networks and in the climate mean jobs,” said Liccardo. “And for us that is the way to a just economic recovery.”

He said his South Bay city could apply for grants and secure funding from the $ 5 billion that will harden the power grid to offset forest fire threats and $ 8 billion for water infrastructure.

The mayor said that if he received the money, it would quadruple the amount of recycled groundwater San Jose produces, which is currently 8 million gallons a day.

“Groundwater replenishment could be a great way for us to recycle water to expand our supply and to do so in an environmentally friendly way,” said Liccardo.

“And it couldn’t come at a better time,” Liccardo said as Santa Clara County and much of the state grapple with shockingly low reservoir levels and a severe drought.

CONTINUE READING: COVID: Facebook is postponing return to offices to early 2022 amid concerns about Delta variants

Funding the infrastructure bill could also ensure San Jose receives enough cash for the BART expansion, which would bring more than 100,000 passengers from the city’s Diridon Station to San Francisco, Oakland, and the rest of the BART system.

“Diridon Station (would) ultimately become the busiest multimodal facility in the area with seven different transit lines,” Liccardo said, emphasizing that BART expansions could also connect San Jose-based employees with more affordable housing in the Central Valley.

In line with the bill’s traffic-focused goals, San Jose could also receive funding from the $ 5 billion allocated to Vision Zero projects that aim to stop pedestrian and automobile deaths by installing flashing pedestrian lights and protected bike lanes and signal upgrades, among others.

Another important aspect of the infrastructure law for Liccardo is the funding to close the digital divide.

He cited federal and local funding over the past two years that has enabled San Jose to support more than 100,000 residents – many of whom are low-income – and connect them to free community Wi-Fi in their own homes.

“We plan to expand this to more than 300,000 San Jose residents by next year,” Liccardo said. “And this investment in funding from the federal government will be of decisive help.”

So with infrastructure bills funding, 27 percent of Californians – more than 10 million people – are eligible for the affordable connectivity program, which offers discounts of up to $ 50 per month on broadband bills.

“And that’s so important because we know that cost is the main obstacle,” said Liccardo.

The Affordable Connectivity Benefits Program is also just one of many programs listed in the Broadband Services and Access Improvement Bill, for which the Senate has allocated more than $ 100 billion.

For Padilla, the unifying thread in the infrastructure law and its focus on justice, he said.

“Far too often, the communities most impacted by the environment invest the least in or see fewer opportunities when it comes to major infrastructure investments,” said Padilla.

It is unclear when parliament will vote on the bipartisan infrastructure law.

John Oliver and Last Week Tonight returned from vacation to take on one of the loudest members of the conspiracy theory media – Alex Jones.

Most of us understand that Alex Jones – who shouts that tap water makes everyone gay and claims that the Sandy Hook massacre was orchestrated by the US government – is spreading unadulterated nonsense. In fact, according to Oliver, “the first thing you should know about the Alex Jones Show is ideally nothing”. Or, as John Oliver Jones colorfully described, he is “the Walter Cronkite of the screeching bats *** gorilla clowns”.

Why is John Oliver talking about this man?

It actually doesn’t have much to do with the fact that Trump is apparently a fan, nor does it have to do with the time Jones called Last Week Tonight on his own show InfoWars. Incidentally, that appeal included a sneaky compliment on Oliver’s presumably intellectual British accent. Wrong, said Oliver: “I sound like a chimney sweep going through a wood chopper.”

Joking aside, however, there are some serious problems with Jones’ show InfoWars. There’s the frankly horrific speculation about the Sandy Hook massacre, not to mention a cornucopia of paranoia, barely veiled homophobia, and Jones yelling about Satanists. Jones also promoted the “Pizzagate” conspiracy theory, which resulted in an actual gunman threatening innocent people in a Washington, DC pizza restaurant.

InfoWars’ source of income

However, “there is a context that you may be less aware of”: the show itself and Jones’ special way of making money. It takes four hours and Jones is always sending products on the air. In fact, Jones spent almost a quarter of the time selling InfoWars on their website. Including wet wipes, herbal shampoo and a “Bill Clinton Rape Whistle”, which is nothing more than a pipe on a lanyard for 6.00 US dollars.

Also, Jones’s store sells some high-priced wet wipes that awkwardly assure you that they are safe to use on the dam. This also means, by the way, that in Last Week Tonight you get a pretty straightforward illustration of what a perineum is.

Apart from that (and if you metaphorically wipe the image of a perineum out of your head), about two-thirds of the revenue from the InfoWars shop comes from a variety of high-priced vitamins and “nutriceutics”. These include products called Child Ease, Brain Force Plus, and DNA Force, the last of which is $ 120.00 per bottle. There is also a “Caveman True Paleo Formula,” which contains ground chicken bones and chocolate powder. Alex Jones claimed that “the ancients had better bones” for shilling the caveman formula.

John Oliver had a glass on the show and gave it a, say, bad review. “It’s coming at you in waves,” he said.

Jones now employs a consultant to support these products, a Dr. Edward Group III. Group claims that “I do research all the time” to bolster its credentials, and also says refugees spread disease – which, of course, means you should buy a supposedly immune-boosting dietary supplement.

Unfortunately, Group isn’t exactly an accredited doctor. Group graduated from Texas Chiropractic College with a degree in chiropractic. However, he did not graduate from a bachelor’s degree and only completed a non-degree certificate program from MIT. In fact, Last Week Tonight contacted MIT about the group’s participation there. In response, MIT said that “it is incorrect to say he graduated from MIT” and that it would be “imprecise and misleading to call him an alumni”.

Well, all of these things aren’t cheap even if you can get them for a much lower price elsewhere. Jones justifies this by saying things like “you absorb it more” and that cheaper competition “will kill you.”

What is Jones doing with all that money?

By the way, where does all the money go? Alex Jones claims all of the revenue goes into his show. Not to mention, it takes approximately $ 45 million to run the show, which is itself subject to “massive, ongoing economic attack”. He also asks viewers to “give me the energy and I will attack the enemy”.

Jones makes it sound like InfoWars is constantly on the verge of closing. However, ex-employees say his business is thriving. Jones seems to be particularly fond of Rolexes, of which Oliver counted at least three individual pieces. Which is fine on its own but doesn’t go well with its message of scrap and fight.

Jones awkwardly argued that he was disguising himself as a Rolex-adorned Satanist to … uh … show the world that … uh, “none of this means anything.” Well saved there. Even so, Jones should have to work so hard to prove his point. According to Oliver, “torturing Sandy Hook’s parents should get you comfortably into Satan’s club.”

So, “when you play [the clips] In context, “Oliver said of Alex Jones,” he looks like a seasoned salesman … selling you an answer. “As a particularly illustrative example, Oliver played a clip in which Jones claims that there are chemicals in the water, all of them feminize and lower fertility rates. Then he turns around and happens to be selling a bunch of expensive water filters.

Next: John Oliver takes over local television

Oliver then brought in Jack McBrayer as “Dr. Ted Throup III ”to sell the John Oliver Moisture-Armored Tactical Assault Wipe exclusively for the dam. “For God’s sake, don’t use this anywhere else.”

Fortunately, you can actually purchase these things from infowipes.com for $ 1,000,000. Incidentally, this amount goes entirely to Doctors Without Borders. Could it be worth the cost? According to “Dr. Ted Throup ”, the other towels will kill you while these“ frogs can heterosexualize ”. Thank god, we guess.

John Oliver took action against Alex Jones, the “Walter Cronkite of … Gorilla Clowns”, on Sunday last week tonight.

The charismatic performer, who is regularly charged, is an important part of many people’s media nutrition, noted Oliver. Almost 6 million people listen to his radio broadcast or watch it online every week. His influential fans include “Russian Ambassador to the United States, Donald Trump,” who tweeted Jones’ claims and was on his program at least once.

Oliver had previously talked about Jones on his first show this season, and Jones seemed a little upset – that is, he was excited and responded happily. Jones dismissed Oliver’s HBO show, said their reviews were “in the bathroom” and suggested he got his performance because “everyone knows a British accent sounds intellectual,” adding, “Hey boy that one People want legitimacy. They want real people who can talk to them and touch them inside. “

“Last Week Tonight”: John Oliver, exhausted from so much bad news recently, talks about missing Bunny and Usher dollars

Oliver replied Sunday night and said to Jones, “Don’t call me ‘boy’ and insist his British accent” sound like a chimney sweep going through a wood chopper. “

Jones’ shtick includes allegations that Sandy Hook slaughtered elementary school children and that some school workers were orchestrated by the government in what, Oliver noted, “deeply harms the families of the victims, is disgusting and should be disqualified from ever taking him seriously. ”

“Unfortunately, doing things that keep you from being taken seriously doesn’t seem like a big deal anymore,” noted Oliver when a photo of Trump’s inauguration surfaced on screen.

During his four-hour program, Jones frequently introduces products that he sells. Oliver spent a week watching InfoWars and watching Jones spend a quarter of his time – an hour – talking about products he was selling, placing ads, or directing listeners to his InfoWars online store, where You can buy survival gear, organic shampoo and body wash and Clinton Rape Whistle, “To let Bill know that you are in the crowd and that you know the truth,” said Oliver, the pitch promised. It comes with a free bumper sticker “9/11 Was an Inside Job” that Oliver discovered when he bought the pipe.

Since 2013, Jones’ program has increasingly focused on clogging its own products, vitamins and so-called “nutraceuticals”. Two-thirds of his funds come from the sale of these products, including “Super Male Vitality” potions, a “caveman” drink that combines chocolate and “domesticated bird bodies”, and another drink that Oliver guarantees “the mind and body.” soothed by children “said exactly, sounded very creepy.

Oliver mentioned Jones’ recent controversial interview in Megyn Kelly’s NBC Sunday Newsmag, which Jones renamed Megyn Kelly to Rationalizing Low Ratings. In that interview, Jones insisted that it costs $ 45-50 million to keep InfoWars up and running, and that whatever he does, he plows back on the show. Jones likes to tell his followers that he needs immediate financial support from viewers / listeners and asks them to “fund” his show through his products – like “an NPR pledge to people who hate NPR,” sniffed Oliver.

If you watch the program regularly, you will find that Jones wears several Rolex watches and expensive sports coats. Jones felt compelled to explain, noted Oliver and told the followers, “I dress as a Satanist so that I can enter this world and show you that none of this means anything.”

“Torturing Sandy Hook’s parents should get you to the Satanic Club in comfort,” without the need to buy a Rolex, let alone several of them, Oliver insisted.

Alex Mack spoke to the media for the first time this week as a member of the 49ers. Here is a transcript of his press conference.

Q: What drew you to the 49ers?

MACK: Looking for a team that was competitive. And the 49ers obviously have a connection with Kyle Shanahan, him as head coach, the crime he is committing. I know it’s a system that I can be really good at. It’s a criminal offense I know I can make a difference. So it was a very good match between a good team in a good place with a good coaching staff and a place where I can be a good player. “

Q: How does Shanahan’s offense fit into what you are doing?

MACK: “I’ve been on this offensive before, so I’ve played these games. I know how it fits together. I like to play the ball. It’s just a system that I know I’m good at. The scheme the outer zone is it. ” something that is my body type, how i can move, the blocks i made before, it’s something i’m comfortable with, i know i’m good at, i’m confident and i know that I am good at it. “

Q: As a veterans center, what can you do about the crime?

MACK: “As a center, you direct a lot of traffic. You communicate with the entire line of scrimmage. And why this is happening, the center has a very good view of the field. A veterans center can see everything, identify the (defensive) front, communicate it effective. The better you can do this, the more you can get people on the same page, confident in what they’re doing and moving fast. This is also an advantage for the quarterback because he doesn’t have to caring so much about some things. He can trust the center. The better the center can direct the traffic, the better the offense can be. And I think I’m pretty good at it. I had that I saw the field and made a phone call. I’ve done that before. “

Q: You are 35 years old and you are not the same player you were when you first entered the league. At Pro Football Focus, your grades have been going down over the past three years. Take one exception to that and where do you think you are in your career in terms of your level of play?

MACK: “I’m an older player. There’s no denying that. But I feel like I’m playing well. I think my film was good. I felt good about it. I think I can be great in this system be. I’m attracting. ” I don’t know exactly what goes into the PFF classes, but I know I can help be a part of this team. I know I can still play this game. I know that I can be a good player. “

Q: Have you thought about how much longer do you want to do this?

MACK: I don’t think I’ll make it to 40. I take it one year at a time to make sure I feel good, play good, and can contribute to this team. I played in Atlanta last year and I felt good, I felt good moving, I still felt like a really good player, so I decided to go back to the free hand and sign here. “
