SALT LAKE CITY–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Breeze Airways, the newest and nicest US low-fare airline founded by aviation entrepreneur David Neeleman, debuted service today from Provo, UT, which now serves as the carrier’s first west coast base, and from San Bernardino, CA, where the airline had the honor of debuting as the new airport’s first commercial service.

Breeze will operate daily nonstop flights from both Provo (PVU) and San Bernardino (SBD) to San Francisco International Airport (SFO), with fares starting as low as $39 one-way. In addition, the airline will offer one-stop/no plane change “BreezeThru” service between Provo and San Bernardino, via SFO.

“Today’s events mark three major milestones for Breeze as we launch service in Provo and San Bernardino, while opening our first West Coast base in Provo, near our Salt Lake City headquarters,” said Tom Doxey, President of Breeze Airways. “We also have the rare honor today of being the very first commercial airline to fly into San Bernardino, marking a major milestone for the airport and its community. We congratulate the government and airport officials that helped make this happen and look forward to serving the residents of these cities.”

Breeze currently employs more than 250 Team Members in its Salt Lake City headquarters and Provo base, with plans to hire 180 more in the coming year.

Breeze’s business model, which focuses on providing fast, efficient, and affordable air service between underserved city pairs, has continued to expand its footprint across the US using mid-sized aircraft, such as the A220-300. The airline doesn’t charge change or cancellation fees up to 15 minutes prior to departure and offers other benefits such as free family seating and a la carte pricing and upgrades including premium seating.

“By investing in vital airport infrastructure, Provo City created economic opportunity rather than waiting for it. With Breeze Airways now operating daily nonstop flights to an international airport, our forward-looking vision has opened our community to the world,” said Provo Mayor Michelle Kaufusi. “The Provo Airport is already establishing a niche for vacationers who appreciate affordable, convenient travel without the hassle of layovers and connections.”

“What an amazing day for our Inland Empire community, the Airport and IVDA Commissions, our staff, and our many partners,” said Frank J. Navarro, SBD’s Commission President and Mayor of the nearby city of Colton. “Today, we start a new chapter in SBD’s history and future possibilities, as we finally achieve our long-held goal of delivering safe, convenient, affordable airline service options to our residents. On behalf of myself and our Commissioners, thank you to the entire Breeze team for their partnerships, commitment, and investment to our San Bernardino International Airport and all it serves and will continue to do for the traveling public.”

“We are very excited to welcome two new Breeze destinations,” said SFO Airport Director Ivar C. Satero. “With new service to Provo, and the first-ever commercial service to San Bernardino, Breeze is giving travelers what they value most… more travel options at competitive prices. We wish Breeze continued success in San Francisco.”

Additionally, Breeze announced a partnership with Brigham Young University Athletics to become their “Official Hometown Airline.” The five-year agreement, in partnership with San Bernardino Airport, spans across nearly all men’s and women’s athletics programs and home games and includes flying BYU teams to away games and other events.

“We are excited to partner with Breeze Airways,” said Casey Stauffer, BYU associate athletic director for corporate sponsorship. “As BYU Athletics continues to prepare for Big 12 Conference membership, we’re thankful to have excellent corporate partners coming aboard with us. It’s especially exciting to partner with businesses run by former Cougar student-athletes, like Tom and Breeze Airways. We are looking forward to some great years ahead.”

“As a former BYU baseball player, I know how passionate the Provo community is about BYU athletics,” Doxey said. “Breeze is very proud to be the ‘Official Hometown Airline of BYU Athletics’ and to support this incredible program as it transitions into the Big 12, while building brand affinity and awareness for Breeze by tapping into its powerful fan base.”

Breeze will add more destinations from Provo this year, including nonstop service to Las Vegas, starting October 5, and to Los Angeles, starting November 2.

SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. (VVNG.com) — Beginning August 4, 2022, the San Bernardino International Airport (SBD) will offer nonstop service to San Francisco International Aiport (SFO) with one-way fares now on sale for as low as $49 with Breeze Airways.

The companies Director of Legal Corporate Affairs, Eric Fletcher, made the public announcement on March 8, 2022, signaling a milestone in the airport’s 80-year history, marking the first-ever scheduled passenger flights.

“It’s really exciting to be announcing new daily service to SFO from San Bernardino today,” said Breeze Airways founder and CEO David Neeleman. “After many years in the industry and founding five airlines, I can’t recall ever being the debut airline at an airport before. It’s wonderful that after many years of effort that the Norton Air Force Base has become a commercial airport.”

Located approximately 60 miles east of Los Angeles and within 30 minutes of more than two million people, the former Norton Air Force Base was converted to civilian use in 1992 and later became certified as a commercial airport by the FAA. The airport offers a full range of services and facilities to support domestic and international passenger airline service, air cargo operations, general aviation, and maintenance repair and overhaul (MRO) businesses.

According to the press release, ” Breeze, an airline launched by JetBlue founder David Neeleman, connects travelers in communities underserved by air service to the US cities they want to visit most, by delivering affordable fares, state-of-the-art technology and its signature Seriously Nice service. Breeze will inaugurate the new SBD-SFO nonstops with Embraer E195 aircraft seating 118 passengers, with 22 seats offering extra legroom. The E195’s two-by-two seating configuration means there are no middle seats onboard.”

Fletcher’s announcement also included that fares as low as $49 one way are now on sale at www.flybreeze.com and the Breeze app.

Offering scheduled airline service to the Inland Empire region has been a goal for SBD for the past decade. The airport has maintained a passenger terminal building since 2010, serving passengers traveling on charter flights since that time.

“Breeze Airways’ announcement of daily nonstop service to SFO is a monumental moment for our inland Southern California region and our communities that have supported the base reuse effort for many years, invigorating the resurgence of true travel options for our residents, businesses, and friends and families,” said Frank J. Navarro, SBD’s Commission President and Mayor of the nearby City of Colton.

Mayor John Valdivia of the City of San Bernardino, a SBD Commissioner and the Inland Valley Development Agency Co-Chairperson (a partner special district of SBD) commented, “The daily service will have incredibly positive economic impacts for the Inland Empire, infusing up to $57 million annually into our region through exciting new aviation careers such as ticketing and gate agents, ground handlers, TSA employees, flight attendants and pilots, aircraft mechanics, and concessionaires.”

“SBD and partners have worked hard to achieve this milestone in our airport’s history, and our region deserves this outcome.” Navarro continued. “We are proud of SBD’s current staff who are helping us make history, and appreciate their efforts to get us ready for scheduled passenger service beginning in August. SBD’s convenient location means local residents and business owners can book a low-fare flight on Breeze Airways from SBD to SFO and avoid sitting in gridlocked traffic.”

“I thank and applaud Breeze Airways CEO David Neeleman and his management team for their investments and confidence in SBD International Airport and for bringing their low-cost service to our fast-growing region,” said SBD Director of Aviation Mark Gibbs.

From Winston Shek

Bamboo Airways applies for flights to San Francisco and Los Angeles

In a recent filing from the U.S. Department of Transportation, Bamboo Airways announced its intention to fly from Ho Chi Minh City to Los Angeles and San Francisco from the third quarter of 2021 after previous reports on the airline’s plans to fly to San Francisco Francisco to start.

In April, AirlineGeeks reported that Bamboo Airways chairman Trinh Van Quyet plans to start flights to San Francisco in September, pending market conditions rebound.

“We will start operating charter flights to the US in July and aim to start commercial non-stop flights between Ho Chi Minh City and San Francisco in September with an initial frequency of three flights a week,” he said at the time .

According to VnExpress, Vietnam’s Department of Transportation completes the process of naming Bamboo Airways for its first charter flights to the United States. Bamboo Airways charters would likely serve as return flights for Vietnamese citizens looking to return home as non-essential travel to Vietnam is barred to everyone else. It will also meet important travel needs between the two countries such as: B. for Vietnamese students and relatives returning to the US. Currently, any indication of what the objectives or dates of this charter would be remains unseen.

In addition, the low-cost carrier finalized a preliminary schedule for flights to San Francisco and Los Angeles after receiving approval for the proposed flight times at the two slot-facilitated airports. Its preliminary schedule in San Francisco is arriving at 10 a.m. and departing at 1 p.m., departing from Ho Chi Minh City in the late morning or early afternoon and arriving in Ho Chi Minh City in the evening enables. In the meantime, the preliminary schedule for Los Angeles is a 9:30 a.m. arrival and a 12:30 p.m. departure, allowing for similar departures and arrivals to and from Ho Chi Minh City.

The flights are operated between four and seven times a week.

Bamboo Airways will use the Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner on the route. The long-haul aircraft have two seat configurations, one with 294 seats with 26 business class seats, 21 premium economy seats and 247 economy seats and another with 292 seats with 30 business class seats, 36 premium economy seats and 226 economy seats.

In its application to the Department of Transportation, Bamboo Airways applied for the rights to flights to Seattle, New York and Dallas, with possible stopovers in Osaka and Nagoya, Japan and Taipei, Taiwan, and the rights to continue flights to Montreal, Toronto and Vancouver, Canada. All of these routes have been selected by the Vietnamese government. However, the airline does not have fifth freedom rights between the US and Japan and will fly non-stop to Los Angeles and San Francisco while the stopover request is pending.

In addition, Bamboo Airways plans to codeshare with a “large” US airline. In the case of codeshare with an airline, the Hanoi-based airline has the right to codeshare flights to 25 destinations in the USA: Atlanta, Austin, Boston, Chicago, Dallas, Denver, Detroit, Honolulu, Houston, Las Vegas, Los Angeles, Miami, Minneapolis, New York, Newark, Oklahoma City, Philadelphia, Phoenix, Portland, St. Louis, San Francisco, San Jose, Seattle, Washington DC, and Wichita.

In addition, Bamboo Airways has begun hiring staff for its San Francisco office, including a station manager in San Francisco, a positive sign of concrete service plans.

Before the Covid-19 pandemic, Bamboo Airways had announced plans for US services such as the use of an Airbus A380 over Taipei, but these were never realized. In addition, the airline had announced its intention to fly to the US by late 2020 or early 2021, but that never materialized.

Prior to the pandemic, the airline’s route network consisted of a sizeable domestic route network and flights to Japan, South Korea and Taipei, and planned to introduce flights to Prague, Czech Republic and Munich, Germany in 2020. Currently, in addition to US services, Bamboo Airways is proposing flights to Australia, the UK and additional flights to Europe before.

Currently, Vietnam Airlines plans to offer flights between Vietnam and the US from 2021, although it is unclear whether they will start these flights. In 2020, the airline repatriated Vietnamese citizens via San Francisco, Houston and Washington Dulles.

According to RoutesOnline, Saber data shows that O&D traffic from Vietnam to the US totaled 1.77 million passengers in 2019, including 300,300 passengers on the Ho Chi Minh to Los Angeles route and 198,000 passengers on the Ho Chi Minh to Los Angeles route San Francisco.

There are concerns about profitability given the demand numbers between the two destinations. In 2018, Vietnam Airlines CEO Doung Tri Thanh stated, “Vietnam Airlines could experience an average annual loss of $ 30 million in the first five years of operation if we open a direct route to the US.” 5 years.

Those losses could be suffered by Bamboo Airways as they launch their flight routes, a blow to their reported $ 13 million profit in 2020.
