in san francisco, a two-story, 139-year-old victorian building was picked up and moved six blocks from franklin street to fulton street. according to the san francisco historical society, this is the first time in 50 years an event like this happens in the city. the last one was in 1974, when 12 homes were moved, making it a relatively common place in san francisco.

the six-bedroom, three-bath victorian home was supported and transported by giant dollies while onlookers enjoyed the show and snapped pictures. ‘The site at 807 Franklin Street is to become a 48-unit, eight-story apartment building, while the transported Victorian will be anchored at 635 Fulton Street and converted to seven residential units,’ the san francisco chronicle reported.

moving the victorian house proved to be tricky because of its 80 feet length and because part of the path involved going downhill. to move it, the owner paid USD $400,000. a few obstacles were found on the way, like light poles, trees and stop signs, but the victorian house made it safe to its new address.

On Sunday the Englander House, a historic building in the heart of the Golden City, was loaded onto giant dollys and transported from 807 Franklin St. to 635 Fulton St.

Videos and photos showed the beautiful greenhouse moving – at a constant rate of a mile per hour – to its new location six blocks away.

Hundreds of onlookers admire and photograph this huge relic from San Francisco’s past.

The house, built in 1882, was relocated to a new location about six blocks away to make room for a condominium.Noah Berger / AP

Phil Joy, a seasoned relocation worker who oversaw the move, told the San Francisco Chronicle that it took several years to plan the quarter mile of the home.

“We had to get 15 different city agencies to agree,” Joy said, according to the newspaper.

Joy said the move was difficult because the house was 25 meters long. He added that part of the trail would be downhill.

SAN FRANCISCO – After 139 years at 807 Franklin Street in San Francisco, a two-story Victorian house has a new address.

The green house with large windows and a brown front door was loaded on giant dollies and moved to a location six blocks away on Sunday.

Spectators lined the sidewalks for photos as the structure – at a top speed of 1 km / h – rolled to 635 Fulton St.

The house’s trip has been in the pipeline for years, the San Francisco Chronicle reported.

Seasoned resident Phil Joy told the newspaper he needed to get permits from more than 15 city authorities.

Joy said this step was difficult in part because the first part of the journey is downhill.

“It’s always difficult for a house,” he said.

Parking meters were torn open, branches cut off and traffic signs laid along the route.

The owner of the six-bedroom home, San Francisco realtor Tim Brown, will pay about $ 400,000 in fees and moving expenses, according to Chronicle.

AROUND THE CORNER – I hate moving. Like I really hate it. It’s a big pain and the last time it was a nightmare.

We put everything in our house in the garage so we could show the house. The house was then sold, but we didn’t have a new location. So we moved everything from the garage to a storage unit while living with the family for a short time. We then found our new place but I wanted to work on it a bit so we moved everything from the storage unit to the new garage so I can work on the house. The day finally came to bring everything from the garage into the house and then I got appendicitis. That made moving around even more difficult. All in all, we moved four times within a few months, all for one move.

There has to be a better way, right?

The other problem we’ve had is that we loved our old house – much more than our current house – but we love the area of the flow so much more than the area of the last house. Another riddle. How do i solve this? How do I get my cake and also eat it without moving?

Now I know: just move the whole house. That’s exactly what happened in San Francisco.

According to the San Francisco Chronicle, which posted the video, this old Victorian house is 139 years old and had to move. The San Francisco Historic Society decided not to demolish the house but move it just a few blocks away. Simple enough, I suppose. Or maybe not. You can see in the video that this was an endeavor. Trees had to be trimmed and signs removed to move the six bedroom house from its current location to the new one.

The next time you move, just take the whole house with you and don’t worry about all those boxes. It can’t be too expensive, can it?
