The 49ers rookie Trey Lance “has a chance” to compete against the Texans, says Kyle Shanahan

San Francisco 49ers rookie quarterback Trey Lance could make his second start of the season against the Houston Texans on Sunday. It all depends heavily on the status of starting quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo’s thumb. On Monday, head coach Kyle Shanahan announced that Garoppolo had suffered a sprained right thumb. The quarterback didn’t train on Monday and the 49ers will re-evaluate him before training on Wednesday. Understandably, Shanahan didn’t give too many details about the injury, but ESPN’s Adam Schefter says it could be “a more significant one.”

The San Francisco 49ers could push forward, with rookie Trey Lance leading the offense on track and possibly into the playoffs. It all depends on Jimmy Garoppolo’s thumb.
