Meet Ronnie Platt, Mar Vista Principal — Instances Publishing Group, Inc.

Ronnie Platt will be the new Principal of Mar Vista Elementary School in Aptos for the 2023-2024 school year. This appointment was approved in March.

Platt has been the principal of Main Street Elementary School in Soquel since 2018. Prior to that, he was Associate Principal of Aptos Junior High for four years.

He began his PVUSD career as a special education teacher at Ohlone Elementary and has also served as a RISE program teacher and RSP teacher. He holds a bachelor’s degree from UC Santa Cruz and a master’s degree in educational administration from National University.

Platt also holds a Level 1 Education Specialist degree, a Level 2 Education Specialist degree (mild/intermediate) and an Administrative degree.

He is one of several new administrative staffers for 2023-24 in the Pajaro Valley Unified School District, which has nearly 18,000 students.

J. Brooke Hofkins, Principal of HA Hyde Elementary since 2018, will be the Research and Evaluation Coordinator. This appointment was approved in December 2022. She began her PVUSD career in 1999 as a 2nd and 3rd grade teacher at Ann Soldo Elementary. She then became a literacy coach and then academic coordinator at Radcliff Elementary. She holds a bachelor’s degree in child development from the state of San Jose, a teaching degree from UCSC and a master’s degree in educational leadership from the state of San Jose and an administrative degree.

She has been working as a consultant and administrator since 2015. A product of PVUSD, she graduated from Pajaro Valley High School and earned a bachelor’s degree in Spanish from UC Santa Barbara with minors in Education and Psychology. In addition, she received a PPS degree in May 2016. She holds a master’s degree in education from San Jose State University and is currently pursuing her PhD in educational leadership at San Francisco State University.

Sergio Ambriz has been promoted from Maintenance and Operations Supervisor to Deputy Maintenance and Operations Director. This appointment was approved in December 2022.

Ambriz has been working for PVUSD for 6 years, initially as a maintenance specialist. He has experience in various trades such as plumbing, carpentry and heating, ventilation and air conditioning. His knowledge and understanding of the district’s maintenance and operating systems is invaluable, district officials said. They say he’s good at solving problems, adhering to safety regulations, leading construction projects, and instilling confidence in the people he works with.

Saulo Tirado is the new maintenance and operations supervisor. He joined PVUSD in 2015 as a bus driver and carpenter specializing in maintenance. His career has included carpentry, construction, reading blueprints, managing construction sites and taking on difficult projects. This appointment was approved in February.

Nancy Zuñiga is the new Assistant Director of Advanced Learning, moving up from Assistant Director of Advanced Learning in Secondary Schools. This appointment was approved in April. Her new role will allow her to interact with students and staff from grades K-12. She will plan programs, oversee budgets and work to strengthen PVUSD’s relationships with the community.

Manjit Dhesi, Lisa Diamond, Gretchen Giuffre, Carl Jacquard, and Georgia Tyrell will assume new roles as advanced learning program directors, overseeing multiple locations and collaborating with employees. Previously, these five administrators were Advanced Learning Coordinators. These appointments were approved in April.
