Jordana Brewster talks about her personal life.

In an candid essay for glamor, the F9 star spoke about her relationship with ex Andrew Form – whom she filed for divorce in 2020 after 13 years of marriage – as well as her current boyfriend Mason Morfit.

“When I married Andrew, I thought the time was right. I was 27, and in hindsight it seems very young, but I was in a hurry,” wrote Brewster, 40, of the couple who were on the set by 2006 met The Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Beginning and married a year later.

During their marriage, Brewster wrote that she developed disrupted eating habits.

“I was so focused on the number on the scale and the number of calories I ate in a day that I ignored any other problems. I haven’t looked closely at my career, my marriage, “she shared, noting that” early in our marriage, my husband and I started living parallel lives. ”

Brewster wrote that as soon as they “stopped overcoming the initial hurdles a couple did” – including greeting sons Rowan, 5, and Julian, 7½ – “realized that something was missing for both of us”.

“So at the beginning of the pandemic, Andrew and I decided to split up. The combination of being apart for many years for most of the year and growing apart emotionally took its toll, ”she wrote.

Just four days after their decision to split, Brewster reunited with her current boyfriend, Morfit, whom she’d met briefly over lunch with her husband four years earlier.

After meeting with Morfit, a 44-year-old technology CEO in San Francisco, Brewster said they saw each other “from that day” and “considered how we could get our families together”.

“Friends asked me about my children and the tribute it would mean to them. They saw my decision as sudden and impulsive. The problem was they didn’t know it was taking 13 years, ”she wrote. “What looked like a huge event was actually a slow unraveling. You just weren’t looking closely enough.”

“Ultimately, my divorce wasn’t my fault or my ex-husband’s. At 27, I wasn’t ready to be emotionally open or vulnerable. I wasn’t ready to really let anyone in, “she continued.” With that came the collateral damage to my first marriage, but by risking everything I won the love of my life. “

Brewster previously opened up to PEOPLE about her shared parenting experience with Form, 52, saying that parenting on the team “was actually a little easier”.

“When [Andrew] has the kids, they enjoy their time with him and it was a really good time together, “Brewster said in April.” We communicate better as co-parents than as husbands and wives. “

“We were married 13 years and were both on the same page so there is no bitterness which I think really helps,” she added.

F9 is now playing in theaters.
