The Chicago White Sox have been grappling with distractions from their own clubhouse for the past two days, and players are desperate to leave it all behind.
White Sox players were essentially asked to pick a team after manager Tony La Russa criticized rookie Yermin Mercedes for swinging in the 3-0 pitch and blowout win against the Minnesota Twins on Monday Position player Willians Astudillo took over. It got even more complicated when the twins threw behind Mercedes on Tuesday. La Russa said he wasn’t bothered.
La Russa has tried to present the White Sox as a unified clubhouse, despite some clear disagreements about how Mercedes handled the situation. So did the players when Chicago ace Lucas Giolito tried to explain the problem to the team with a funny quote.
