Lehigh To Face Saint Joseph’s And Coppin State In House Openers, Play House-And-House Sequence In opposition to Saint Peter’s

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – After nearly a month of playing on the road, Lehigh baseball will finally make their home debut this week at J. David Walker Field. The Mountain Hawks will play host to Saint Joseph’s on Tuesday and Coppin State on Wednesday before beginning a home-and-home four game series with Saint Peter’s over the weekend.
Lehigh (8-3-1) enters the week following a road series with the Mount St. Mary’s Mountaineers. The Mountain Hawks were scheduled to play a doubleheader on Friday followed by a single game to close out the series. Lehigh ended up earning a 3-2 victory in game one, but were unable to finish game two due to darkness with the score tied 10-10 after nine innings. Weather on Sunday caused a cancelation of game two’s resumption and game three, resulting in a 1-0-1 week for Lehigh.
Saint Joseph’s (5-8) will carry a four-game skid into Tuesday’s matchup with Lehigh. The Hawks split a two-game series against Fairfield before dropping all games of a three-game series against UNC Wilmington last week. Sophomore Ryan Weingartner leads the club in batting average at .357 and six home runs while sophomore RHP Will McCausland leads the team in innings pitched at 21.0. RHP David Owsik will start on the mound against Teddy Tolliver on Tuesday.
Coppin State (3-6) will come to Bethlehem off the heels of a 2-1 series victory over Merrimack. The Eagles defeated the Warriors 7-4 in game one and 5-4 in a 12-inning contest in game two before dropping game three 16-11. CSU’s leader in batting average is Kai Holm at .368 while three other Eagles also carry averages over .300 (Damon Gaither, Chris Marte, Anthony Divittorio). On the mound, Alek Elges leads the team in innings pitched with 17.1.
Saint Peter’s (4-11) last played in a four-game series on the road against San Francisco, dropping all four games to the Dons. Senior Alex Rakas leads the team with a .355 batting average while Tyler Cotton joins him with a .340 mark at the plate. Freshman Jonny Gilligan is the team-leader in innings pitched at 17.0. Lehigh will host the Peacocks on Friday and Sunday but will travel to Jersey City for a doubleheader in between on Saturday.
