Harbor defeats Santa Cruz in shortened game, 40-0 The Harbor Pirates opened up a 40-point lead over Santa Cruz in the first half. According to Jim Seimas of the Santa Cruz Sentinel, the game was called early after a late hit on the sidelines led to a scuffle between both teams. Hollister crushes Oak Grove, 44-7 The Hollister rushing attack ran all over visiting Oak Grove in the first half of this game. Haybalers running back Robert Holsten had three rushing touchdowns in the first half. The special teams unit also blocked three punts in the first two quarters. N. Salinas defeats Sobrato, 47-15 A big win at Rabobank Stadium for the North Salinas Vikings. North Salinas will play in the new Mission South division. They will face Jefferson High School on the road in week two. Aptos defeated by Oakdale, 21-14 The Aptos Mariners lose their home opener, defeated on a late touchdown by visiting Oakdale. The Mariners were among three teams to finish with a share of the Gabilan division title last season. They will travel to Archbishop Mitty next week. Pacific Grove beats Marina, 42-14 The Breakers defeat the Mariners in this week one matchup. Pacific Grove will play in the new Mission South division this season. Marina High remains in the Santa Lucia division. Greenfield defeats King City, 21-12 The Bruins and Mustangs exchanged touchdowns in the first quarter but Greenfield was able to pull away down the stretch. Greenfield will face Soledad in week two while King City faces another tough opponent in Palma. Salinas falls to Clayton Valley, 17-0 The Cowboys suffer a loss at home in week one. It is the school’s first week one loss since 2018. Salinas will face Valley Christian High School of San Jose next week. Ripon Christian defeats Pajaro Valley, 68-0 The Grizzlies were defeated on the road in their first match of the new season. Pajaro Valley will look to bounce back against Watsonville High in week two. Monterey shuts out St. Francis S.C.P., 35-0 The Toreadores open the new season with a shutout victory over the visiting Sharks. Monterey has joined the Gabilan division this season after finishing second in the Mission division last year. The Toreadores will face Aragon High School on the road next week. St. Francis moves on to play Stevenson. South San Francisco defeats San Lorenzo Valley, 40-18 The Cougars fall on the road in their first game of the new year. They will have their home opener on Saturday, Sept. 2 against Henry T. Gunderson High School from San Jose. Palma defeats Soledad, 41-12 A high-scoring victory for the Palma Chieftains in their first matchup of the season. Chieftains wide receiver and Notre Dame football commit Logan Saldate had 171 receiving yards and scored two touchdowns in the victory. Palma will go on the road in week two to play King City. Soledad will host their home opener on Aug. 31 against Greenfield. Seaside beats Rancho San Juan, 21-7 The Spartans get out to a hot start with a victory on the road in week one. Fabian Ceja scored the lone touchdown for the Trailblazers with an interception returned for a touchdown. Rancho San Juan will face Los Altos next week. Seaside will host Marina High in week two. Alisal defeats Alvarez, 25-21 The visiting Trojans pulled off a win against cross-town rival, Alvarez. The two teams are no longer in the same division. Alisal will play in the Mission South while Alvarez remains in the Gabilan division. Christopher outruns North County, 21-13 The Condors dropped their first game of the new season on the road in Gilroy. North County will face Alisal High School in week two. Los Gatos defeats Soquel, 45-14 A tough matchup for the Soquel Knights in week one of the new season, traveling north to Los Gatos. The Knights will play in the Gabilan division this season after winning the league title in the Mission division last year.
