Six people were injured, including two in critical condition, after a heating, ventilation and air conditioning system collapsed at an indoor pool area of a Colorado resort, authorities said.

The Aurora Fire Rescue said its rescue team responded Saturday morning at the Gaylord Rockies Resort in suburban Denver “where there has been a mechanical equipment breakdown in the water sports area.”

Several 911 callers reported that the resort’s pool area air conditioning had collapsed, the department said. About 50 to 100 people were in the area at the time, it said.

First responders treated six patients, including two with life-threatening injuries, all of whom were transported to local hospitals, the fire department said.

While they were at the scene, Aurora Fire Rescue’s technical rescue team “made sure their comrades had a safe environment for patient care,” the department said in a statement. “Dangers still existed from the risk of falling debris and mechanical systems.”

A spokesman for Gaylord Rockies Resort referred any questions to the Aurora Fire Department as part of the investigation.
